Tourist Sauce: The Carolinas

yep, I called a few days ago to book those and they aren’t accepting tee times yet anywhere (we are staying there two nights so I know we will play 2 and 4 just not when) but I think we have plans to play it at least two times, and ideally more

Doubt they could film at Secession. Pumped for Kiawah #content.

They definitely got the drone up at Secession.

You’re probably aware, but replays are free all day on the Cradle. $50 is steep for what you get if you only get to play it once, so playing it first thing in the morning once or twice and then again all evening is the best bang for your buck.
I’d much prefer to play it during the free time over 36 holes every day if I planned my own trip back again.

No, I didn’t know that. That’s hugely interesting…I think playing it as a “warmup” before the bigger courses is smart anyway, and if we can just jump back on afterwards why not. I think it’s less than 800 yards so that sounds awesome.

Throw in a couple pinecones from the Pinecone bar on the Cradle and you have the makings of a great day.

You have to check with the starter to make a new tee time for later or get the approval to go back out, but it’s not bad at all. Playing it once may leave you feeling a little sour for the price, so try and build multiple loops in if you’re planning on playing it one of the days.

I’ve seen that hole before.

The range is a funny setup anyway, not like you’re missing out on THAT much (we hit range balls and then 4/4 of our group launched balls into the woods on the first hole as the legendary starter watches).

no, wouldnt have been missing out on anything. i got there earlier enough they still had balls, but i think i was the last bucket or two they had

im not a big fan of hitting balls prior to a round, but sometimes its nice to feel a few off the club and loosen up a bit

Played Tobacco Road yesterday. Would be a great place for them to visit. Big Randy will have an existential crisis and the big right miss is lurking in a serious way. Would be great to see them get some good drone footage as it is just so hard to capture the scale and movement of the property. Unlike anything I’ve ever played.

Glad you enjoyed Tobacco Road. It is one of my least favorite courses ever, especially for the cost. I found it to be needlessly tricky with blind shots and weird routing. The app helped but for me it would have to be an acquired taste. Certainly some picturesque holes. It would be a hard walk which is my preferred way of playing golf. I didn’t understand why they had gas carts until we had to motor through some of the sand and hills.

Definitely agree on the routing, but I think the holes make up for it, it’s golf turned up to 11. To get those elevation changes you have to sacrifice something and sadly they sacrificed walk ability. Love the size of the greens and bit fan of blind shots. I played with 3 strangers who played before and really helped, which may be the difference between enjoying it and not

Found out that they have played my local Muni and it will be in S5. So pumped to see how they make it look and their thoughts on the place.

Got that on lock. My friend owns like 10 Subways and sponsors us in several little pro ams every summer. He’s very generous and hooks us up with new fits head to toe. Only thing though is he has the Subway logo embroidered on the shirts so I have a collection of nice golf shirts with a stupid Subway logo on the chest lol.

You’re bumming my vibe on Tobacco Road man! I loved everything about it. Just have to accept it for what it is. Someone told me it was like playing golf on the moon before I went and I think that’s pretty accurate. I may not ever get back to that area I am so so glad I played TR when I had the chance Ive truly never seen anything quite like it. Every tee box Id stand there and go “wow”

I don’t really think the walkability is that bad. The only long green to tee walks are 9-10, 12-13, and 14-15, and those are terrible. I live in the Appalachians, so I don’t think the elevation changes are that brutal. Play some courses in Western NC and you’ll see unwalkable. Also, the courses in neighborhoods with long walks from green to tee are much worse. I’m thinking Tidewater in North MB would be a good example.

BTW, does anyone know the lineup of courses for S5?
