Tourist Sauce: The Carolinas

So are you keeping track of plusses for each press now?
So first bet is plus 2 as hole 3 begins. Press.
So now team 1 wins again and first bet moves to plus 3 and second bet plus one.
Other team wins hole 4. So original bet plus 2, second bet even. Where do you keep writing all these things as you get to five or six presses. And how do you handle the press back? Double lines?

It looked confusing to me. And i think i dont have a good system so i end up writing a lot of extra shit down that i may not need to.

Each press is a new match, so in line 5, on the first hole, you only have the result of that hole (+1). Then, second hole, with a press, you have two matches (AS, -1). Third hole three matches.

ETC.

To be honest, I’ve never gotten as crazy as that match sounded but to answer your question, no I don’t keep track of each individual press. Just keep track of the overall match and the rest can take care of itself.

In this example, I would have a slash between hole 2 and 3 but I’m still just keeping track of the overall. So you win hole 3 and are now +3, b/c you have that slash there after being +2 you know that you’re now +3 on the match and +1 on the press. So what the slash says to me is “Ok we were +2 when they pressed, if after 9 (assuming a front 9 press) I’m +3 then I won the press, if I’m +1 then I lost the press but still won the original bet”

If there’s a press back, I do a backwards slash (or an x… just something different). I’ve never done double presses but would probably do a double slash

Just to be clear for everyone else i f up the original description and i apologize. I edited but made it hard for hibernating bear who is kindly trying to help me.

When @Soly says plus 1 plus 1 even even.

That means those are the running totals of the original bet and three presses?

Just think of each press as a new bet, just starting on a different hole. There is no “original bet”. Just a bet starting on hole 1, a bet starting on hole 2, hole 3, hole 4.

Four bets.

Yes

Yes and I’m assuming he’s just doing quick math based on where the match currently is and where the presses began

Best explanation.

Also–our presses usually are double the original’s bet—so the third press is 4x the original.

In my experience presses are equal in value, although multipliers could definitely be discussed as per terms. Hence one press - lose the original, win the press, net zero. Double or nothing.

You got the wrong guy for that. I understand presses, but I’m a terrible record-keeper for that. It’s why I don’t like playing games with lots of junk bets. I lose track.

I cant process that quickly so i always keep a running total. By the end of the match my card looks like a mess. Trying to write on a swamp ass card while walking and tracking dots plus strokes plus match play and presses makes me crabby when someone asks me something. :grimacing:

Also we usually have a gross and net game running on top of the match play when we have eight people so its a mess. I cant wait for technology to solve this issue.

I wish this was more intuitive to me because i know im doing it inefficiently. I just can’t figure out what not to write down safely.

Someone create an app that tracks all of the rules/pressing, take a cut of the total in the end. Goldmine.

I actually thought about doing this a few years ago, decided it was too much work

I feel like this was @djpie’s coming out party on how good of a golfer he is.

He tries to play off this melancholy “I’m not that great” attitude, and it’s just not flying anymore. He absolutely striped it in Pinehurst, and this was shortly after, so I’m not surprised at the 76

The gig is up Mr. Pie. We’re all looking forward to following along at the Mid Am Qualifier this year.

Great mention with the memorial scholarship fund. The guys didn’t mention the two chairs on the first tee-- you see them in lots of Secession photos. Those chairs are there for the two members who were lost on 9/11. Not everybody knows that (I know you do.)

Record keeping.
We are at sand valley. After eight rounds of hard fought competition over four days with all kinds of games, some guy wants me to tell him his scores for each round so he can enter them.

Im like you know when after each round i announce each persons score gross and net score? Thats your chance to write down the shit you need. Also because we have a rolling handicap because some people don’t play that often, so net for our purposes may not match your net. Also annoying is being asked fifteen times what the course rating is. You guis are grown ups. You have the internet. We are still at the course. Get a scorecard. Figure it out.

Being the scribe is a thankless task.
