Okay–so I love love love the videos, watch them multiple times each, and am extremely grateful for the amazing #content the NLU guys have churned out over the years. Honestly: it’s wonderful stuff.

But what is up with the constant shots of putts that cut away before we see if the putt falls or not? Seems to happen every episode. Two in the Pinehurst #2 episode, and that’s not even counting the one we see in the opening credits each time. It really hurts my soul.

Thoughts? Am I being that guy? (And by “that guy,” I mean an asshole.)

(And what’s up with the blown-up weird crop shot of Tron in the opening on this episode? A mistake? Was he not wearing Penguin pants? An elaborate in-joke?)

You make the liquor and I’ll make the beer!

professional / high caliber golf
the average joe caliber of golf
beautiful shots of the course
great lesson on the the course
post round hang that we all which we could have been a part of
delete scenes of @djpie trying to be scummy about fringe ball marks

dead horse shmead horse. This was sick. big big thumbs up to the entire gang.

@Soly @djpie @Randy @MerchCzar

Oh, Matt–I’m sorry, man, the work is really great–I’m not trying to be a dickford, honest.

(But DJ’s putt-putt ball doesn’t fall.)

There’s three editors names on there, man: blame the other two.

haha its all a collab, but honestly, putts are tough. They take so freaking long…the stroke is slow, the time it takes to get to the hole is usually longish (jumpcuts here are jarring IMO), not much visual interest in frame wtih so little moving. Comparing that the pace of full swings, its hard for putts to not feel like a speed bump in the edit sometimes. All that to say, love that yall care enough to want to make it better

Speaking of which, what happened the the gambling on this season? Did I miss that was only the first week of courses?

That’s awesome you’re so cool about someone critiquing (did someone say frame-fucking?) the work. But so many of us have watched so much pro golf for so long, it’s in our DNA to expect to see the outcome of the putt.

It works for me to see the stroke, and the putt to get moving, and then quickly cut away. It’s just that gray area when the ball is creeping up on the hole (Tron at 15:00, for example) where it feels like you gotta give us the whole thing. But yeah, rhythmically, I can see how it brings the energy to a screeching halt.

(But seriously, why is Tron’s drive in the opening sequence blown up to like 200%?)

I feel like if they are in a match, seeing the putts go in matters. But if the putt doesn’t mean that much it doesn’t matter seeing the whole thing. Especially if it is missing anyway

Asked and answered, man.

Yeah it really took a back seat this episode. Did we even get to see a $ tally at the end?

Hint: I promise any putt that cuts away doesn’t drop. And collectively they save so much of your life by cutting.

Wasn’t much gambling while we were spread out over three courses and it took a backseat to No. 2 (Neil and Tron were knocked out already and we wanted to put Soly with Hueber).

The final episode is basically all gambling.

I don’t think we’ve gotten one the last two episodes now since @MerchCzar went all in, which makes me think they maybe didn’t stick with it after their first trip to the area?

@djpie @Soly as the leaders at that stage, should we look forward to an all or nothing match at the backend of the season?

Edit: Just saw @djpie comment above mine saying final episode is all gambling… play on good sir

Might be in the minority, but the last couple of episodes have been my favorites of the season. It shifted away from the gambling and focused more on the interviews, the history, thoughts on the courses, and just everything that answers “why is this place so awesome?” or “why should people absolutely go here?” It’s what made past seasons so magical, in my opinion, and what you guys really tapped into the last couple of episodes.

However, since the season started with the premise of gambling, I am looking forward to the mix of the gambling as well as all the Strantz love in the final episode!

Just turned in my cut of next week’s ep to @rmattgolden. It’s 41 mins of history, gambling, made and missed putts and everything else from this season.

It really ties the room together.
