Tourist Sauce: The Carolinas

Couldn’t have nailed the situation at Brick Landing any better. That super short par 3 is funny as hell. It has potential.

1 and 18 are obviously cool being right along the water and will draw people in to support the course to a point. I enjoyed all of the par 3s and I really liked the 5 holes across the street in the marsh. Their old halfway house looked like it was a cool spot to hangout back in the day. I would love to see the course come back, but I’m afraid it might be too far gone.

Yeah it has been in the current condition for a loooong time.

Solid list. Bald Head is siiiiick, going back this summer for a week and will play it a few times. Cape Fear is almost out the price range for a normal weekend round. They are under new ownership (same as Compass Pointe) and it is outrageously priced, although it’s a dope course. Its almost worth driving down to Carolina National to play in lieu of Cape Fear. Lockwood is underestimated by a lot of people and Mag Greens is overpriced as well, especially during the off-season.

I’ve played bald head twice and been blown away both times. Every hole isolated, always in great shape.

Cape fear is a lot. I have the My Golf card so it helps a little, but that course is so good it’s worth it

I don’t remember the which nine is which at Carolina national but the one that starts to the right of the range (Heron I think) is not good. If I could play the other two every time it would be higher on my list.

Maybe I caught Lockwood folly on an off time but I really didn’t like that course. Clubhouse is really nice but a lot of the holes felt too tight or just thrown out there with no thought. Plus our house is in Oak Island so it makes way more sense for me to play Oak Island GC 5 minutes away if I’m looking for a cheap muni

My family vacations in Oak Island too. Love it there and have been going since I was a kid. Never played the course though because no one in my family golfs but me. Need to get to it this year. It looks so nice when you come off the bridge.

Oak island is an awesome course and super sneaky deal. I love going down in the summer and playing 36 there. It’s like $70 and sometimes they will throw in sandwich and a beer. Duffers pub was sweet and I hope it’s even better in the new building.

Oak island is awesome. Great family town. The course is exactly what you’d expect from a small town muni. Some weird holes, some good ones, conditioning a little rough around the edges

I feel like they tore down that clubhouse 10 years ago. Last time I was there they had built the exterior of the new one, looks really good

You ever do the pitch and putt on the other side of the intracoastal? Thinking of taking my 6 year old over there this summer. Looks cheap and fun for kids.

Tigers eye is my favorite course but they are really struggling with conditions the last few years. Course gets so much play it’s tough to make the decision, but they absolutely need to shut it down and redo the greens that bent grass cannot hold up to the heat in the summer with the maintenance budget they have coupled with the number of rounds that go through there.

Lockwood did have some temp greens last year which made it a little low on the list, but the value for what you get was always a bonus for me.

I have, it’s good. More of a full fledged par 3 course than a pitch and putt, but would definitely be good for kids

I’m a member at Cape Fear. If anyone ever wants to play a round, the guest fee is $45 with cart. As long as you don’t mind playing with a high handicapper who still plays fast

I smell a high handicapper outing in the making.

Highly possible. Do you also 3 putt like it’s required for putting?

My putting is ok but you should see @CrucialTaunt drain 20 footers to save bogey on Donald Ross greens.

Also you should drop in to Roll Call: NC, the RACDG, and WhatsApp group if you aren’t already

That only worked that day. Played there the following Saturday and couldn’t putt to save my life.
