They should do England a few times, Ireland a few times, Scotland a few times. Plenty of nuance and creativity to the culture and adventure/logistics to keep things fresh. You can’t really check any location off as done when it comes to travel IMO.
But hey, I’m a “ginella’s journeys” guy according to @Tron so what do I know.
At the concert I’ll be the guy yelling NORTH BERWICK or CARNE during set breaks and grabbing a beer or heading to the loo when they play the Scandinavia stuff.
I feel like an APAC trip that isn’t Australia would be much more interesting than another GB&I season. The latter is a pretty well-known commodity at this point, no?
Really I’m just looking for some additional color around how “it’s actually a bit arrogant and out of touch” for us to go somewhere unexpected, like Scandinavia, especially when per capita, Sweden is one of the most golf-crazed places in the world. If anything, us playing the hits and doing something that we knew would be popular but doesn’t really break new ground would qualify as arrogant and complacent. The first season of this series we went to Australia, and in particular, Tasmania, a place that I don’t think the majority of our viewers are ever going to go. I just don’t see your logic.
I’m good with any personal opinions on our content and stating preferences, but not going to sleep on someone calling us arrogant or out of touch because we chose Scandinavia, especially after only one episode of an eight episode season.
The quality of golf throughout the rest of this season, the number of viewers and listeners we have in Europe, and the feedback we’ve received thus far all suggest that you may need to take your own comments and look inward. I appreciate that you’re a fan of Irish, English and Scottish golf, as are we, and there are other ways to cover those trips than Tourist Sauce alone. And happy to indulge you on the numerous conversations we’ve had about “nuance and creativity and culture and keeping things fresh” if you’d like. Bottom line: you should probably brace yourself to be sorely disappointed by all things Tourist Sauce over the next couple years based on the narrow-minded focus laid out above.
They’re doing one a year. Unless they are going to jump to one a quarter, this sounds like a terrible idea. TS:Scotland is probably my favorite season. But if @Tron came out today and said “The next 6-10 years we’re just going to focus on the England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.” I’d be really bummed.
I can see folks falling into the camp of “Tourist Sauce should highlight golfing destinations I’ve either been to or would like to visit one day”, I get that. But I love getting a look at places like Scandinavia and Australia and Tasmania and these far away places that either may be unattainable due to cost or something like that because it gives me a look at what it’s like through the eyes of the NLU crew and content that you create. I also appreciate a look at what there is to do in these places away from the golf course, a look into other cultures around the world. My wife isn’t a golfer but we love to travel together and to find spots around the world where I can check a few golf boxes but also really enjoy a trip with her at the same time is all-time awesome to me.
This isn’t to discount the “Tourist Sauce should highlight golfing destinations I’ve either been to or would like to visit one day” by any means, to each their own. This is more just to say I appreciate the thought that goes into a season like this one for the reasons above.
Tourist Sauce isn’t one thing. We don’t even really know how to define it. @djpie and I have talked a lot about how it’s a bunch of ingredients that we use in varying amounts and doses depending upon the season. The last couple seasons were more about the golf and the buddies trip element. Ireland was more about the off-course craic (hence the minimal focus on the competition/lack of competition.) This one is more about exploring an unfamiliar place and culture and getting back out in the world and remembering how beautiful it is and being humbled by how much there is that we have yet to see. The next one might be more about architecture. Or the incredible people you meet along the way. Or us getting older and transitioning into a different season of our lives. Or a few of us getting back into playing really good golf and having a big competition and doing a Ryder Cup style buddies trip. They all have a minimum amount of each ingredient in every season, but the levels vary based upon the place and time.
