Tourist Sauce Season 7: Michigan Wine and Dine

Tron really comes across as a likeable fellow in this episode. Just a really, really great dude.

Devilish editing showing @Tron griping about having to partner with and constantly worry about @MerchCzar’s game while simultaneously chunking one.

DS and Crossings are both awesome. I think DS is probably a notch above but both would be Crown Jewels of a Strapped season. DS is laughably cheap.

I like the look of Forest Dunes and The Loop in particular. I’d say, based on the chirping, that Tom Doak did his job and did it well.

Really would have thought the Loop would have softened up a bit by now, but I don’t really know the timeline for those things. Played it four years ago and it was cement. I understand Kingsley was super firm for the first couple years as well, but I didn’t start going up until year 10. Those greens would be a lot more fair if a) you could fly a ball onto them, and/or b) there were occasionally some helping slopes instead of punishing slopes.

Should go in a folder with the one from Scotland

It is so awesome to hear you give such high praise to a course I play often!

Where are they drinking when discussing the courses? Hop Lot? Haven’t been there in a couple years and looks very unlike the Hop Lot I know, yet eerily similar.

Edit: I’ll take @Cody ’s like as confirmation. Crazy how that place has exploded.

Yeah, it’s hoplot. We were there in September for the first time in a few years and the outdoors space is 10x the size it was before. Reminds me a lot of Oxbow in Maine. Best ā€œbeer gardenā€ in the state IMO.

haha. It was Hop Lot. Very cool spot for some afternoon beers. Figured with it being outside we could film and not worry about the background noise.

this episode should be titled ā€œSeven Nation Butthurt Army.ā€ Lots of schadenfreude chuckles from me during this one.

Full disclosure, I hate bits.

But Doak getting Steely Dan deep into the ass of a guy who’s schtick is getting in peoples asses, is my favorite bit that actually isn’t a bit.

Even though my course architecture knowledge is essentially zero, I was shocked to hear Tron wasn’t a fan of Doak. I’ve been enamored with every single Doak course I’ve played so far. Absolutely love 'em. Although I will say, beyond the obvious commentary from them, the course did look super tough to play.

Just searched Wikipedia to see if there were any Doak courses I could check out near me…realized that the course I grew up on and my favorite routing in my home town is actually a Doak design. I absolutely adore that place! Lol

Truly a who knew situation!

Honestly think the tourney setup was the major factor in the (lack of) enjoyment of the course. It’s quirky, but generally not that hard. Unfortunate that they caught it that day as it’s truly a mind fuck the first time you see it, and an unbelievably fun course if you don’t get to play that style of golf a lot.

Started the episode thinking how fun it would be to go there, play the Faz course, both Loop courses and the short course over a few days. Started thinking maybe it was a bit too hard but I agree that some of that is tournament setup and also that it still looked fun as hell.

Props to NLU for feeling free to critique a course when they’re also interviewing the architect - thought it was balanced and fair, and gave a good sampling of how folks might react to The Loop.

I agree I love how they say how they really feel about a course. I spoke with the guys at The Mines two days after the boys played. They didn’t call in advance to say what they were doing to get a free round #tcway or anything like that. I really respect that about their opinions. May not always agree but respect the process.
