I very much noticed it and was disappointed in him for losing all of his hard-won triathlon fitness.
The slo-mo shot of @MerchCzar on 18 tee as he pulls the driver cover off and then switches to 3w was just :chefs kiss:
So well done @djpie. And overall, this season was fantastic. I couldnât not imagine a better way to showcase my home state than the job you guys did. A+âs all around.
Iâm glad Neil got his first W, he played great. Well deserved.
I canât wait to get to some of these places that I havenât been able to get to even though I live here. This cemented for me that I need to be intentional about making it happen.
This official slogan of the Refuge.
The difference in the overall vibe of the match between Big and Neil was incredibly different than I was expecting. Obviously they both want to win a final, but weâve never seen the true nerves/intensity between the two of them like this. When they played earlier in S7, it was still very much of a âfriendlyâ type of match. This wasnât. This episode wound up being much more intense to watch than I originally expected. You could really feel Neil have a âI donât care whoâs in my wayâ type of mentality in this match and credit to him for digging deep after early struggles to find a way to get the W.
The flashbacks to the quotes and predictions from the early episodes of S7 right before he closed it out was incredible viewing. My main thought I had while watching that was⌠how on earth am I viewing this for free?
A few other thoughts from this episodeâŚ
- The concession on 17th by Neil for Bigâs putt brought back memories of the OG Tiger vs. Phil match where no one wanted to win THAT way. I was glad to see it. Even more so after it set upâŚ
- The moment on the 18th tee. That has to be THE moment of S7. In S6, it was poetic that Bigâs last shot hit in route to winning was a hybrid bump and run. In S7, it was Neil making the play to go against the name of the company very slightly just for a moment in order to achieve the goal.
- I think that course wouldâve absolutely been much better received very early on in the trip. But yeah, at the very end of a grueling adventure like that? Had to be an absolute beat down.
- I seriously donât think Iâll be that amped up to that high of a level to watch golf again until the second week of April.
What you guys at NLU do is truly, truly special. A sincere thank you for bringing us along for the journey.
It looked a bit Tetherow-y. Is that a good comp?
Get in Friday morning/midday and get to the airport 3 hours early for a Sunday early afternoon flight. That was my last Vegas trip, no more was necessary, weâre so ready to get out of that fantasyland
Tron probably got his fill of big boats on freshwater on the North âCoastâ [SIC] of Lake Superior when he was visiting Northland.
The look @Tron gives him as heâs doing it is gold. A mix of approval, joy and hoping he doesnât fuck it up
It looked like the home course of the Harlem Globetrotters. Pretty entertaining, but you should never ever give a shit about the score.
Couldnât help but notice what aspirational levels of respect for the game displayed by both finalists on 17 and 18. Brought a tear to my eye.
@MerchCzar a deserving champion
@Randy a worthy opponent
Bound by respect to the game
What a fantastic season, happy to see @MerchCzar finally take one down. Congrats Icarito!
Congrats @MerchCzar , Neil. A truly dominating performance. Thanks to @djpie for putting together an amazing, entertaining series and thanks to the entire NLU family for giving us something to look forward to and talk about in our weird little community.
Loved the Bogey golf bit, thought it was an excellent homage to Bits of the Refuge.
This season and the Oregon season has officially enlisted my wife in the NLU army. She was so sad when it ended, when I told her that we can go back and rewatch all the other seasons, she was 100 percent on board. I had to warn her that the production value isnât as good, but she blew it off. Who cares? She said. Letâs watch it.
Say something funny once - funny.
Say the same thing 5 times - stops being funny.
Say the same thing 50 times - Starts being annoying.
Say the same thing 500 times - back to being funny.
Clearly @Soly just needed it to be a 36 hole day to start appreciating the bogey golf bit.
Iâve always thought of this as the Will Ferrell/Mr. Tarkanian bit, where he stabs Chris Parnell with a trident 20 times. Itâs a little funny at first, then not funny, but it comes back around and becomes REALLY funny.
First example I thought of was the classic Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger sketch from SNL.
I once drove to Tahoe (about four plus hours) with a few buddies, one who kept repeating âIâm tiredy-poo-pooâ from the back seat every three or four minutes. For the entire road trip. It completely went through this cycle but it definitely didnât stay funny throughout. But he certainly thought it was hilarious.
