Amazing work with this episode (and the entire season). This episode’s format cannot be replicated over an entire season which is what made it that much better. The drama and the pressure were real.
Whoever had the take about these guys watching poorly produced professional golf over several years and using that knowledge to create something like this - spot on.
I’ve never rewatched an episode of TS but I think I will with this one.
I usually watch a couple of episodes back to back and the opener for this season basically is what I hear every time I step on a golf course. Equal parts happy and soothing. Bravo for taking this shitbag of a song and finding the 40 seconds that are good (about 3 minutes apart) and putting them together for something that is perfect.
Have a 21 degree and the explosiveness off the face is ridiculous. Don’t love it as much off the deck, and it means not carrying a hybrid so I swap it out at certain courses where I think a hybrid might be better.
I’ll join the chorus and say that this has been compelling content all season, and hit a climax in this episode. Reading through the comments it seems that some folks have particular interests from TS regarding course profiling, and that’s cool. Honestly, I just like watching these five guys do just about anything, so it all works. It feels lame to say as a middle aged guy, but I was more invested in the @djpie@Soly match than any other sporting event of 2020. It’s a testament to the NLU brand that you make your followers feel that way.
I have the Titleist U500 2 iron 17 degree loft. I hover between a 1 and 3 hdcp and do not carry a 3 wood. I go straight from driver to 2 iron to 3 iron hybrid. I only really use it off the tee but it is probably my favorite club in the bag. You do need a slightly higher and aggressive swing speed to take full advantage of it and you also need to be a good ball striker. But on fast and firm courses, the ball just runs and the club is a weapon. I would highly encourage you to try it out.
Between comments like this and the ones about not enough Silvies-centric stuff, there’s a reason “you can’t please everyone” is an oft-said phrase. I get the feeling that with only one match to follow next week, more in-depth Silvies/course stuff will show up. And even if it doesn’t, I’m here to hang with the guys and watch the competition unfold.
Good point, he seemed really struggle putting that round as well. But, he also seemed to imply he felt the pressure from Randy’s steady ball striking. As someone else mentioned between Bandon Crossings, Tetherow and the first round at Silvies he has really turned it on now that something is on the line. Is @Randy morphing into a killer??? Oh boy, we like to see that.
@Soly what shaft do you use in your utility iron? Playing x100s in my irons don’t know whether to go lighter graphite or heavier steel in a utility. Anyone playing utility irons thoughts are welcome.
I say this with absolutely no bitterness (seriously), but Silvies (Hankins) is maybe the best course I’ve seen that neutralizes the distance debate. I felt no advantage over @djpie being able to hit it well past him. Again, I say that in celebration of the course and the match more than butthurtedness. I’ve never had more fun losing. Firm turf, tricky greens and pins, an elevation element that was really difficult to predict all contributed to encouraging creativity rather than sticking to stock shots and numbers. Freeing myself of score was liberating. Real match play with real stakes is where golf is its most fun.
I’m 6.5 Project X. Had a graphite shafted driving iron that I ended up hating. The steel shaft has been integral to an increase in accuracy with it (or maybe it’s just a better shaft).
It seems like they really have figured out the creativity/playability aspect of keeping it a fun and memorable golf course but at the same time a fair test of ability.
That sounds like solid advice based off of experience. I had a driving iron with the same shaft as my hybrid that I don’t love in the driving iron but love in the hybrid…go figure. Will probably try steel Project X. Thanks Soly.
