hahahahaha we were all gifted Golf Daddy hats!
Absolutely scratching Cape Wickham off my list.
Not a chance I’m heading there. Snakes are no bueno
slow snakes! Not to be overly afraid of. Cap Wickham has Short-tailed Shearwater burrows all over the place. In the grass, bunkers, you name it. The snakes feast on the bird eggs, and sometimes the birds by the remnants of feathers scattered about.
I get Adders and grass snakes where I play…they make me jump and give me the heebie jeebies in general…and they won’t even do a great deal of damage.
Anything that can kill me - I’m noping out there
“great course with flaws” AKA “great course but snakes”
Thinking about Ep 4 and 5 together, if money were no object I’d definitely want to be a member and daily fixture at Peninsula Kingswood, and do an annual galavant to King Island.
I saw just as many snakes at Ocean Dunes and Barnbougle as at Wickham, including one on the fairway.
Just play the Irish drop rule to avoid having to go deep into the rough to find a ball.
That’s one of the big downsides of Ocean Dunes vs Wickham for me. The OD rough was intrusive and thick.
The first half of that episode was like a horror movie, waiting for the monster to strike.
Just caught up on the amazing (double) episode tonight. But as soon as I saw Randy in the back of the plane, I was literally empathizing with him from my first time flying private on a client trip to Vegas my second week of a new job.
(1. It looks like I’m in the toilet, but it’s a seat with a toilet underneath. Not that it makes it any better.
2. I showed my wife the Randy pic, and unprompted, she said, “It reminds me of that Vegas PJ pic of you”)
FWIW I played Wickham twice last year and did not see a single snake!
But I’m so on board with the 16 stinks takes. I have no idea how you get a ball to stop in that fairway. It’s also pretty narrow around the green and doesn’t give you much room to miss into the prevailing wind. I also didn’t like 17 bc of the green either.
I hit my ball about 150m left of what should be a sane line on any decent hole… Still ended up rignt of the fairway
Finally finished this episode. King’s Island looks incredible. I’m absolutely terrified of snakes so I will not be going anywhere near that island but, my phobia aside, those courses, the rental houses the views, the food all make it seem like an incredible spot. Way in on Ocean Dunes. That course looks like a blast. Maybe I preferred it over Wickham because they didn’t show any snakes in that course’s film.
Hey all. Was great episode as per usual. So happy the guys made the trip and as always the video produced was exceptional.
Snake wise this was about as bad as it gets. On most visits there I don’t see any snakes… and believe me it isn’t because I’ve kept the ball in the fairway!
If anyone does want to make the trip and needs any info just hit me up. Always happy to help.
And shoutout @mike_caridi with the Callaway ambush marketing!
Love this data and I would also be interested to see one you may have from close to the Old Course or Bandon in the US?
I was lucky to have calm weather on King Island for my journey, and it seems as though the biggest challenge for the NLU Wickham round was the direction of the breeze rather than the strength?
If 10 was downwind then the wind was predominantly from the east (with a bit of north in it IIRC from a chat with one of the guys?) Like ENE or so.
As you see above, they have E or ENE winds about 15% of days at 3pm, ie. about five days a month. So it’s not as common as a wind from between WNW and WSW, but it’s also not rare.
Loved this episode and the season as a whole so far. Looking to see if I can get a BizDev to Australia on the books in one of the next few Januaries. These episodes will be rewatched many times.
A question that maybe should be on the pants chat thread - are the guys’ pants being worn on this series and at Cape Wickham a specific brand? They look great and have some colors - especially Randy’s blue/gray pants - that I don’t see anywhere. Can one of the guys provide details on the brand of pants being worn?
Imagine they are all FJ trousers/pants/slacks
Just watched the latest episode last night and came here to say exactly this. Absolutely loved the music throughout the entire ep.
Personally I would be very interested in learning about the process of how @justine and the production team select the music for all the NLU video content. Would be awesome to get her on a pod to discuss!
