I’ve long been part of that cabal but am also at a point where it’s been SO long since I’ve tried it, and conceptually it makes sense why folks like it that I’m willing to try again. I just tend to not like sweet and savory mixed too much.

Soly talking about how they’ve always locked handicaps at the start of the trip. Well he states here that the winner of the qualification here is at a disadvantage due to the daily updates of handicaps. Can’t believe he remember how they did the qualifications from 3 years ago

Isn’t he stating that since the handicap system evolved to daily - where it used to be twice a month I think? - that if they DIDNT lock it, it would be a disadvantage. I think handicaps should always lock before any competition like this

Hope plugs are allowed … because watching the mouthwatering Clovelly Bowling Club footage reminded me that it’s the 10 year publication anniversary of my first and only book, Balls on the Lawn, a brief and playful introduction to all the most important lawn games. Don’t actually do this. Flights to Australia are so long that you can do this, pass out for 8 hours, and wake up with a horrible hangover with 5 hours left in your flight.

Speaking of lawn bowling - has anyone stateside ever seen a lawn bowling club as relaxed and cool as that one was??
I remember playing with my grandparents as a kid but there was more etiquette and stricter dress codes than a country club. Not so fun.

Oh god, so much this. My brothers and I got sauced up on a flight from Auckland to Bangkok once. The first four or so hours were awesome, especially when the guy came around with the bottle of brandy after dinner. Then I went to sleep.*
Woke with about three hours to go, with a shocking hangover and a manic, confusing, tropical airport, full of scary policemen carrying submachine guns to look forward to. Fuck, it sucked.
*we would have been such obnoxious noisy dickheads.

There’s one at a local muni near me that is similarly relaxed, but not nearly as cool of a vibe as the one shown in TS.
Might be the location (no waterfront, let alone ocean views), the clientele, the limited beverage selection, or likely a combo of everything. Thanks, Ohio.
