Tourist Sauce S9 - Who will be the golf daddy?

The flight from the US to Aus in economy stinks. They key to making it work is to stay in Australia long enough to forget how shitty it was before you take the return flight.

The extra $8000 in my bank account sure helps. Short term pain for long term gain or something like that

If someone offered $8k to sit in an airplane seat for 24 hours I’d do it.

For me it’s easy:

Step 1: be 5’5"
Step 2: pillow
Step 3: sound cancelling headphones

Ativan helps with a lot of in-flight issues.

This helps greatly when taking long haul flights.

A full day in economy as a tall fellow would be tough.

But again, saving 8k would be worth it.

For a roundtrip flight on United from DEN → SYD, Oct 19-27

Basic Econ - $1815
Econ - $1965
Econ (refundable) - $2365
Prem. Econ - $4665
Biz/1st - $10,590

DEN → MEL on same dates
Basic Econ - $2104
Econ - $2254
Econ (Refundable) - $2654
Prem. Econ - $5229
Biz/1st - $10879

I’d take the Prem. Econ in a heartbeat and then would look to upgrade via points. And if that didn’t work out, it’s a coin toss if I just drop the $10K anyways.

This is why I don’t have kids. So I can hypothetically fly Biz Class to Australia to play golf.

Spending thousands of dollars to be a slightly less uncomfortable on a flight will always be complete fucking insanity to me no matter how much money I make

I think we should stop arguing about which class we’d ride in to Australia and just go to Australia, fam.

I work and make money so I can enjoy things in life. Comfortable travel is one of those things.

You do you Mr 5’5", all curled up in your Econ seat.

Willfully torturing myself on what is supposed to a fun trip is insane to me.

If I was going to just be slightly less comfortable this wouldn’t be an issue.

For that kind of haul, I’m not even sure if Premium Economy would cut it, I may have to be heavily drugged the entire flight

So do I but I would just way wather enjoy 8 rounds at pasatiempo than pay the same amount of money to get a few extra inches of space for 15 hours.

The enjoyment to dollar spent ratio is wildly different in that comparison (to me)

And I’ve done the Den → Syd flight before in Prem Econ on the way to NZ.

I know what it’s like.

Especially fun when we landed in Sydney and Australian Customs got on and informed us that the airline neglected to fumigate the plane before leaving the States and we had 2 options.

1 - Fly back to the US without getting off the plane.
2 - Let them come through with literal bug bomb aerosol cans and fumigate it while we were still sitting in our seats.

We chose Option #2.

I’m at a point in my life that it’s not an either/or equation. When I was 30? Maybe different.

This is why when we got to Tokyo my wife and I are planning on splitting the difference. There is no way my 6’1" frame is going to handle standard economy very well for 15 hours. We’re going to go with the 1 up level and get the slightly bigger seat with the foot rests, better food, and extra goodies so that we can enjoy our time on there way there and back without spending $11k round trip each for the full lay down seats.

Gonna stick with my plan that worked on my last international flight. Book economy, depend on passenger with a lay flat to trade seats with me to sit next to his family. I have complete faith this will happen to me every time

This is really where it finally pays to be only 5’10’'.

Flights and center of gravity on skis are the two things I always think about.

eh, gimme delta 1 for 600,000 points thank you very much.
