Big Pig.
Haha, yeah, it’s a stretch, though they are pretty well known outside of Oz
oooohhhhh we’re getting into international incident territory here*

*I don’t know many Kiwis who genuinely care about this. Mum! Australia keep stealing our stuff!
The cartoonist is Michael Leunig, a Melbourne icon. Indeed, he’s a bit of a national treasure. Leunig’s cartoons used to feature in the local broadsheet, The Age. I recommend looking up some of his stuff. He has a wonderful, eclectic, style which reflects the beauty and hardship of modern life.
Might need Justine to release the S9 playlist a month before the premiere like the movie studios do.
If we’re talking Aussie bands, I just want some Hiatus Kaiyote, Parcels, and Gizzard.
He’s also a anti-vaxxer since waaaay before Covid and also an anti-Semite.
National treasure? Maybe to some.
Western Australia thanks you for finally looking behind the curtain.
Cam Avery (touring bassist for Tame Impala) has a good solo album. Gang of Youths not been mentioned thus far?
Have a listen to Apricot Rail if you need some instrumental stuff @djpie @justine.
I think we’ve also forgotten Paul Kelly and his song ‘Dumb Things’
I think Gang of Youths might have got a passing mention higher up.
I like them, not like a massive fan or anything, though I do think The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows is a fkn incredible song that — at least IMO — perfectly articulates the feeling of depression and anxiety.
When it stopped making me cry and started making me feel triumphant, I knew I was going to be okay.
The music perfectly supports the lyrics, too. Builds the mood and feeling that the words describe.
Christ, @ChickPhilA mentioned them literally underneath Tame Impala that I bolded. Think the eyes are going…
Speaking of Paul Kelly, maybe Every Fucking City describes the feeling of filming a Tourist Sauce series?!
It was I who mentioned them. Love Go Farther In Lightness so much. Played that album on repeat back in 2017/2018.
Nobody is perfect. I’m not going to defend Leunig, he can do that himself. Political cartoonists have always pushed the boundaries of satire, sometimes going too far in one direction or the other. They’re an important part of the political discourse and I’d rather they keep a keen edge on their blade than be dulled out of existence.
No love for DMA’s here? Pretty popular in the UK at least, they tour there a lot.
Silver, Lay Down, Delete etc. Anthemic things of that nature
From Little Things Big Things Grow could be a nice accompaniment to a building Icarito moment…
