Alright, my bad.
I am willing to cede you that one of the greatest strengths of courses in GB&I is their proper use of angles. So adding width opposite those angles doesnât diminish the challenge.
Just finished watching this, and Iâm in total agreement this is the best one yet. And my god, the soundâŚI had my surround sound on, and that place just punched my soul.
Talk to any Irish caddy and one of the first things you hear is controlling your ball off the tee matters.
Different courses, countries, cultures (?) can place different emphases on varying aspects of the game.
My perception anyway
Just finished watching.
I hope someday to be as happy as @TomCoyne looked this entire episode.
Well done, lads. Just incredible stuff.
The larger point here is that many people cross the pond to go play links golf in the UK but leave their critical thinking back at home. And with what it costs to put together a trip over there, can you blame them?
Like a critic seeing a woke movie, they play a course only looking for positives. Thatâs how we end up with mediocrity like Moonlight winning Best Picture.
I think thatâs a big reason why @Soly realized he never even thought about fairway width in Ireland. Itâs one of the very first things I take note of when reviewing a course with friends. We have a ton of courses in the US that have tight fairways but very playable rough, but I donât think we are so willing to excuse that same flaw back home.
An example would be Prairie Dunes, where the maintained rough is usually kept pretty playable (not the gunch). Still, the fairways should be expanded so that you are more willing to aim somewhere besides the middle of the fairway, so that balls can run into fairway bunkers, and for aesthetic reasons.
But, when it comes to links courses in the UK (not owned by Trump), many are unwilling to offer any criticism. The charm of the small towns and cozy clubhouses, and the old-fashioned quirk and history are enough to silence any reservations about the greatness of an iconic course.
But then the same people head to Cabot and nitpick everythingâŚ
What canât you understand?
Everything youâve posted for the last month.
You might make good points sometimes, but then go and do thisâŚ
Just leave this at the door, man! Youâll be 100x more liked. Your takes may be hot and challenging, but thatâs okay - we welcome that, when not paired with insults.
@Eric_Denver you have made some genuinely engaging points lately and I appreciate the way you have reflected on Ireland.
But like, come on. Just skip the shit, dude. Yes itâs over the line. Be better. Next question.
Ya thatâs it for me with this clown. Not funny, very personal and just all around classless. An absolute scourge on this site. Says 1 intelligent thing to his 1,000 unintelligible comments. Tries way too hard to sound smarter than he is. I really wish heâd get out of here.
Youâve had multiple suspensions from this site for crossing lines in personal attacks, so you donât get to hand-wave and âplay the victimâ.
You need to be better and you need to start showing a track record of being better. Thatâs it.
Yes, calling somebody âearly onsetâ is too far, it doesnât matter what they said or did.
If anyone thinks Eric didnât intentionally decide to get people pissed off by challenging what 99.99% of us think is the best course weâve seen via NLU and trying to stir shit up, SOLELY for the sake of stirring shit up, theyâre crazy. Donât feed the trolls, and Eric is definitively a troll (or, at least, someone who clearly seems to take pleasure - consciously or unconsciously - by stirring shit up.)
Iâd also venture that the gang didnât think about the width at places like Carne because it doesnât matter there. To me, width is more about OB and tree lined fairways, not dunes and rough where you can still get your club on the ball. But then, thatâs just me.
By the way, youâre âIâm SO SHOCKED anyone is offended by my wordsâ schtick is pretty tired, man. Youâve been doing it since you got to The Refuge, and you either donât understand basic social norms, or youâre trolling for the effect youâre getting. Either way, itâs super boring and annoying.
If you want to be a part of our community you are going to have to adhere to our standards.
Once again, having âpriorsâ on a golf message board is probably a sign for some introspection. Cheers, mate. Good luck.
If you want an equal seat at the table you are going to have to earn it. You are being given a fair chance to earn it, but donât waste it by personally insulting community members.
Well, youâre just wrong.
