Tourist Sauce, Ireland

This season of Downtown Abby rocks.

I’ve been out here white-knighting against @canhidekiwin over on twitter dot com about the same topic. Why do people insist on seeing the tax returns before any of the content comes out? Most needle-dicked response I think I’ve ever observed on the internets…

The entire ethos of the emerald isle fits perfectly with NLU. Seeing y’all go to places I hit up while studying abroad has me feeling some kind of way over here in my cubicle. I’ll worry about how this trip was paid for later (edit: never).

Ps. The more people that get woke about the superiority of real Guinness to the swill we get in the states the better. It’s my one hipster beer take that I’ll die on a hill for. Very much enjoyed the insta story on this topic. Just pray it isn’t left on the cutting room floor.

Likewise. I thought it was a load of absolute shit until I experienced it for myself. Night and day. And Guinness was my favorite beer before even ever having a real one. Talk about life changing.

I was a firm believer in the superiority of Irish Guinness from the moment I first arrived in Dublin in 1998 for a year of study at Trinity. I returned to Ireland several times in the first decade of 2000s and was always given a warm welcome by the creamy pint of plain. I have not been back since 2010, and in the intervening years I have become a devotee of the hazy, hoppy New England IPAs beloved by beer bros, many of whom mock Guinness as mass-produced swill. I will return to Ireland this summer and I am somewhat concerned I will be let down by a formerly great pleasure now that my palate has been altered by several years of excessive lupulin consumption.

Pretty much summed me up right there except I can confirm, confidently, that you will not be disappointed and the black gold will be everything you expect, and more.

Make sure you boys hit Matt Molloys in Westport. One of my favorite bars in the world. And live music by locals almost every night. Coyne wrote about it in Issue 7 of Golfers Journal @Soly

lol holy shit

That looks familiar to days I can recall at Dooks and Dingle, the only times we have cut short a round, both in hurricane-type conditions on separate trips. I also once walked off the Cashen Course at the turn on our second round of the day because the 4 club wind (but no rain) was messing with my brain and 27 holes at Ballybunion seemed sufficient. I came up short of the green on a well-struck 4 iron into the wind on a 130 yard par 3, then drove the green on a downwind 370 yard par 4, followed by 4 putts and a determination that a pint of plain was my only man.

Unbelievable Tiger Prawns at Turbridy’s in Doonbeg.

And my favorite local, Martin, and 80 something widow who charmed the shit out of my new bride in 2012.

I saw they are going to Sligo. I’m hoping @TomCoyne takes them to the Beach Bar. A can’t miss that I owe fully to A Course Called Ireland.

Definitely leveraged that masterpiece each of my trips and owe multiple fond memories in pubs and on the links to TC

We weren’t paid by Adare. And that guy clearly doesn’t get it. And was willing to try to drag us through the mud for shit that’s just not true. So I ejected him.

I’d play in that. In fact, I’d actually be somewhat disappointed if I didn’t get at least one day of extreme weather when in Ireland or Scotland.

Thanks! We are going to try to fit it in. Great spot.

I’m a day late and likely a few dollars short on this recco, but @Soly, if you guys have the opportunity to stay at the Tides B&B in Ballybunion, do it. Amazing hospitality from a local resident with some insane stories, a lot of hilarious golf kitsch, and a Sharper Image/Brookstone-like massage chair in the living room that is calling out for Big Randy to test drive.

@3wiggle could not be more right about Irish Guinness.

Lastly, there’s a wonderful statue in town of Bill Clinton. I suppose NLU could post a team photo in front of it to put an end to the unintended political debate (or to fan the flames).

Perhaps I could recommend a reading from the book of yardage:

ā€œA heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.ā€

Thanks be to Donald.

Appreciate the love! The NLU boys are so busy capturing every memorable moment on video that I thought it would be cool to document what happens via photography for a change. If there’s anything in particular y’all wanna see, just holler at your boy.

Keep doing what you’re doing. Sick photos so far.

Regardless of who paid for it (I don’t care), I hope Adare isn’t indicative of this season’s overall tone. Castles and falcons aren’t really in line with the spirit of NLU.
