The TrapDraw: Garth

I will start with this, I enjoyed this pod cast so much! The documentary was good, but for me it was totally different. I will also say I have seen Garth in concert 6 times since he came back and twice in the same day. My wife is a huge fan and he did 8 shows to open The Sprint Center in KC and she went to 8 shows. But any way, I grew up in a small town and when Garth came out it made country cool. I you have to go see him live. He is amazing! @MerchCzar and @djpie the reason for the crazy shirts is that was the rodeo style in the early 90’s. Also his show is taken for Chris Ledoux. I have seen them both and they are both great, however Garth is at a 15 where Ledoux was at 10. I do admit the documentary show was a little cheese, but it brought back great memoirs for me.

Grew up a big garth fan thanks to my dad’s love for his music. I will say watching all this was very much how the trapdraw drew it up. I laughed a lot at this podcast because I do enjoy all his music but he is so off his rocker with some things that it can be laughable.

I don’t often repeat a podcast or actively send anyone a specific one but this was sent to all my friends. They needed to enjoy hearing @MerchCzar talk about how he was in awe of how ridiculous some of his quotes were.

Is this where we can find the mysterious 4th verse of Friends In Low Places?

In Oklahoma and southwest MO and south Kansas and west Arkansas, for people my age it was different. I just wish they would have went into his start more. He went to OSU, Oklahoma State, on a track scholarship and his farm/home town is still in Oklahoma. There are bars in Stillwater that still have his picture up. And everyone has a Garth story and I have never heard a bad one.

Is it a mystery any more?

I just think the Original ends early!

I get it. I’m from Boston and my dad’s from Boston (evidence of his reach). I think that’s the part that’s weird to me, it wasn’t a history of Garth it was a personality piece at times like we need to be convinced he’s a good guy when there is nothing I know of that contradicts that.

Fact.
But like the guys said he was before the internet and not on streaming. I am sure he is going out on concert tour this summer and needs to sell out some stadiums or arenas for 8 nights. He needs show people who he “is”.
I tell you it’s a great show and I will prob go again. The music to me brings back great memories!

the only things is I really just want to listen to Garth right now, but I can’t. But does that make his live shows better?

He came through 2 weeks ago for his Dive Bar tour but you couldn’t buy tickets, only win them.

he is prob the only person I would rather see on a big stage instead of in a bar.

In Garth-adjacent news, there has been one ND Stadium concert ever. The first was Garth, and it happened about 18 months ago. They just announced the second. It’s George Strait. Me thinks we have a type.

I was born and raised in south Texas, but at the tail end of the Garth run (late 90s). The only Garth song I know any words to is Friends in Low Places. I consider Callin’ Baton Rouge a New Grass Revival song so that doesn’t count.

This was a great pod, and makes me want to cue up some Garth songs to delve into more. But I can’t shake the image of him as a very earnest, very goofy, somewhat dimwitted guy. Neil said it best: a cheesedick. A near-billionaire cheesedick, but a cheesedick nonetheless.

Y’all realize you can listen to the double live album on Amazon Music right?

The LeDoux connection was huge for us Wyoming folk—especially since the worn out rodeo song tapes were something we collected and cherished. It was awesome that the Garth craze allowed Chris to get some well deserved time in the spotlight. Assuming most concerts still get the “God Bless Chris LeDoux” shout-out…

Can’t wait to watch this documentary now…loved this pod. I grew up in Houston and Garth has always been a myth to me. (i wasnt old enough to understand the scope of his prime)

@MerchCzar @djpie please advise if Garth filed the Chris Gaines name change with FINRA.

un-funny financial joke aside, great work on this one!

I can legitimately say this was the funniest NLU pod I’ve ever listened to.

This pod was performance art.

@MerchCzar can we get big Jerry on more trapdraw pods? Maybe he becomes the resident documentary reviewer??? Really enjoyed his insights.

Would love to know what altered states y’all were in.

I knew this thread would start eventually! I think I’ll do some researching and get the full story on the Croke Park incidents but that will prob be a long form piece.

But seriously, with both my parents being big country fans and growing up listening to it so much, this pod was so good. The Perfect Club is the best.
