Had a blast in the AM playing with @Zocco@JamesHCard and @Are_you_double_D. Apparently James only makes eagles when he plays with me, so I’ll let him pick up the greens fees going forward.
In the afternoon, finally got to play with @leric90@tigergolftraveler and Luke’s friend Ben. Just a delight to play with you guis.
The course, holy shit was it good. Just all sorts of quirk and character. I’d say my favorite part is the back to back short par 4s (14-15) bookended by an uphill par 5 and a downhill par 3.
Coming back from injury is sooooo hard, maybe we all need to hit up some Denny’s late night to get all the way back. @AirMailWedges once alluded to my game as unexplainable due to the fact I’ll make harder holes look ho hum and then triple bogey the easiest hole in the state. The birdie was nothing but lucky as my morning round was totally consumed by my refusal to throw up outside of my mouth. I found a little groove in the afternoon having the comfort of knowing my man @billythekid was gonna pick up any of my slack. Best of luck to ya on the full comeback from the knee replacement bud.
I’m back. My left knee is my good knee now. It’s just the bad habits I have to unlearn. I thought I had learned how to keep my weight on my front side in the short game and finally fixed that, and then I realized I had some stuff screwed up in my full swing too.
My go to for late night Denny’s was always the grilled cheese sandwich, because I was usually broke and because it was really good. If I was feeling flush it was the Superbird.
3 is a fucking hard golf hole. On a course that’s only ~5800 yards, that hole and 11 are the two that come to mind first where you could put them on any “Championship” course and they’d fit right in.
I told myself I’d keep it below the hole at Aiken. Then proceeded to be above the hole on about 20 of the 36 holes. Welp.
If there’s one word I could use to describe Aiken, it would be… vibey. If you’re driving through SC on 20, coming for the Masters in the future, live within 4 hours, etc… it’s worth seeing, no doubt. Fun as hell, but you better be striking it to score well.
Above all, thanks to @LukeBoatright for putting this event together! Best thing that can be said is that it went off without a hitch and every last detail was taken care of – just had to show up, play golf and enjoy ourselves.
Might have to change my tagline. We had fun, that’s what mattered (even if it didn’t look like I was having any fun)
I’ve come all the way around on 6. Hated it on the day but thinking back it’s fucking great. Either hit it out right or you have to run it up, there’s plenty of room to do that
My opinion of #6 is very high despite the @Q-school action I had in the bunker on my first hole of the day. Those were probably my 3 least favorite shots of the day. It was the only time all day I did that, too.
I also want to shout out @Paden for having us out at Forest Hills. Course was in great shape, is a great walk, and just a really good layout. Greens were lightning. Highly recommend.
This 100%. This was my first event, and I had a blast. The weekend started great when I went straight to the 10th tee at Woodside on Friday after driving from Charleston and was welcomed by @LukeBoatright, @leric90, and @Zocco mid round. Great to meet more people at the Alley on Friday night although I struggled with remembering names after too many self pours at the taproom. Had the pleasure of watching @Fluff make birdie after birdie on Saturday morning, and drinking beer with @Zocco and @BushwoodCaddie in the afternoon. Looking forward to another refuge event soon.
