The Old Broken Bucket - IN Roost Major

The Crossroads Co-op is proud to announce the first annual Old Broken Bucket, our Roost Major. The Old Broken Bucket is centered around the spirited rivalry between Indiana University and Purdue University. Whether you are an alum yourself, or have ties through family and friends, or simply love a good golf weekend, we invite you to join us this June.

A few key details:

  • Location: Indianapolis, IN
  • Dates: June 1st and 2nd, 2024 (Sat, Sun)
  • Saturday golf: 12:00 PM tee-time start at Purgatory Golf Club
  • Sunday golf: 9:15 AM tee-time start at Bear Slide Golf Club
  • Registration opens:
    • Feb 1st for Roost-affiliated golfers (any Roost!)
    • Feb 10th for General public
  • Entry Fee: $275
    • $100 non-refundable deposit due at signup, to protect tee time blocks and merchandise commitments
    • 36-holes of golf at absolute heaters of North Indy Area
    • Cart, range balls and live scoring/leaderboards for both rounds
    • Tee gifts, event golf towel
    • Prizing for multiple competitions

Saturday evening, after play at Purgatory, 21+ golfers will gather for dinner and drinks, location TBA.

A reminder here, in general and for our event, to always have a sober ride: never drink and drive.

Format

This will be played as a Net Fourball event, made up of two-man teams that you select yourselves. Pick a partner that will help you, and your chosen school, chase the title.

  • Golfers must have a USGA/GHIN Handicap to compete
    • Golfers without a handicap may register and play, but are not eligible for any Net competitions
  • Play your own ball the entire time
  • Mark down your gross scores (tech provider will do the rest)

What are you playing for?

Roost Regional Qualifications (2 golfers)

As decided by the Net Fourball tournament. The top team from the Crossroads Co-op membership will be invited to our Roost Regional team, and join us at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia July 11-13.

Nest Invitational Tournament Qualification (1 golfer)

As decided by the Net Fourball tournament. The winning team, from the general public or the Co-op, will choose one (1) golfer to send to No Laying Up’s NIT. This coveted event is the pride and joy of the NLU season. The winning team may choose the golfer for the NIT by whatever means they decide, either by handshake or through match play. Please note the NIT golfer must subscribe to the No Laying Up Nest Membership within 48 hours of award.

Old Broken Bucket Team Champions

During registration, golfers will choose to support Indiana or Purdue in the Old Broken Bucket competition. At the close of 36-hole play, the side with the best overall Net score from their top three twosomes wins the coveted Old Broken Bucket.

For example, if the top three teams from the Purdue side total 138, 140 and 140 their team total would be 418. If IU scored 425, Purdue would be crowned champion.

Individual Medalist (Gross & Net)

The individuals with the best 36-hole scores.

Through these competitive formats, we allow the entire state to compete in support of their chosen university, while also qualifying golfers for the top NLU events. Each year, we’ll compete for ownership of the Old Broken Bucket and state-wide bragging rights.

With that said, save the date for May 3rd, 2025, as we host the 2nd Annual Old Broken Bucket at Purdue University’s Kampen-Cosler and Allen-Ackerman courses.

Charity

The 2024 Old Broken Bucket will raise money for two charities; more information to come:

  • Alzheimer’s Association: Greater Kentucky & Southern Indiana Chapter
  • Youth on Course: in partnership with Indiana Golf

*2024 event details are be subject to change, and any changes will be communicated on the CCO website and in the Refuge

It’s been a bit since I participated in an event…sign up sheet coming or how do we sign up for non-nest members? Event looks unbelievable. Purgatory is 10/10.

Any chance of a sign up for people who dont have a partner yet?

Great question—you can sign up as individual or team when registration opens, and I can assign teams at a later date.

(That’s in registration details when it opens on UKG, too) :handshake:

Some bad hombres making the trip to come steal our hardware. Best be back next year to defend.

Top notch event this weekend. Key learning would be for @papateeps to NOT do his rain dance on the pool table the night before the event so it pisses on us all day Saturday.

The three groups that survived that monsoon can now golf through anything.

I think they’ve hung a warning poster with his face on it at The Silver Dollar, after Friday nights display.

If he ever comes back to Evansville, I am hanging one at Fidel’s where he taught me a very fast lesson before the original Farmer’s Cup.
