The Extinction at Park Mammoth Golf Club (6/3/23)

I was about to start offering you Roca Bar (RIP the OG spot) as a bribe to get payment in.

Just went to the OG location about a month ago. I had no idea they were closing.

Yeah. A lot of locals are v not pleased. It’s moving to about 5 minutes from my dads house though and into not nearly as sketchy of an area, so I can’t say im to mad.

tough situation… if anyone has to drop out last minute, ping me as i will be on summer time and can probably make the trip even last minute.

75 players converging at Park Mammoth in 3.5 weeks… Thank y’all again for getting involved and making this event special! Stay tuned for an email and some more information, but in the meantime, here’s the link for the Friday practice round if you haven’t already signed up and want to!

If you are still on the waitlist, your role is more important now than ever. In the unfortunate event that someone can not make it, you will be hearing from me

Time to wrap up the back nine, grab some cold beverages at the turn, and race through the back in time to kick things off :fire:

The 9th is a short par 4 that forces most players to make a decision on the tee box. At 308 yards on the scorecard, the fairway rolls and meanders, eventually climbing towards the green on the left and running away on the right.

From the tee, players can either try to thread a bomb between the tree short left, tall grass, cart path, and bunkers…. But if you do that, SICK! Other players may lay back with less than driver, or have their driver max out before the green complex and have a tricky wedge in. Again, this is a whole that tests your course strategy. Are you more comfortable with a 60-70 yard wedge uphill to a crazy green complex? Or do you want a full swing from 100-110? Depending on where the flag is, you may either have a massive backstop (front hole location) or have to run it into the top of the backstop/drop it from altitude to get it to hold on the back.

The tent will be behind this green, so any Icarito balls could get TIO, which would be a wild scene. Overall, I’d put this on the brink of a good and great golf hole, and I’d personally lean towards great.

Afternoon all!

An updated brochure is in the works after our latest planning meeting today, but I did not want to hesitate to pass along this news.

After months of working to secure an affordable mode of mass transportation, I’m sorry to say that the private bus companies in our area are not as accommodating as we are. Instead of breaking the budget and shriveling the size of our charitable donation, we will be setting aside a few moments at the kickoff on Friday night for players to find a carpool, where folks who may not drink heavily can help out their fellow golf sicko who may prefer to drink an extra beer (or three).

Obviously, this isn’t the outcome we wanted, but we appreciate everyone’s understanding and acceptance of this responsibility.

Alright folks! Now that we are 3 weeks out for from the event, time to kick things into high gear with the whole previews! Today we are kicking off the back 9 with the 10th hole. 10 is a downhill par 4 that leaves longer hitters with a decision to make off the tee. Do you take on the ditch and go for it with driver which can leave you a chip for your second or do you lay back and leave yourself a full wedge shot in from behind the ditch?

Once you get up to the green, you’re met with the first half of the line double green on property! Make sure you shoot the correct pin with your range finder or you could have some awkward interactions with those playing 13. The ridge between the two greens can also provide a great chance for a backstop for those going the full shot route off the tee! Overall, 10 is a great way to kick off the back 9 which is my personal favorite 9 on property!

Played PM last Thursday and it was in great shape. Can’t believe I can’t make it to the Extinction. It’s gonna be an epic weekend and I’m eager to hear the report from the first timers.

Continuing on with the course preview now that we are only two weeks out from the practice round and the Calcutta! We are now onto the 11th hole! On a course that features 2 brutal par 3’s of over 200 yards, the shortest par 3 on property is absolutely my favorite of the bunch! From the back tees, I have never played the 11th from anywhere over 125 yards, but it has one of the most diabolical greens on property!

From the tee, it doesn’t appear it, but there are a ton of interesting slopes to this green where the greens keeper (and @leftysauce) can get in the lab and either reward you with some funnel pins (shout-out Big Randy) or some tucked pins that you gotta control your distance and spin to even get within 30-40 feet!

I am praying for a home in one to one of the home locations, and avoiding a pace of play hazard with the other one… we coming
