The Down Under thread - ANZAC adjacent

Can confirm it was peculiar behaviour

BIG yikes.

Big call,

March is probably the best month to be down here for golf as you still have the back end of daylight savings, but I voted for May - June because it is generally still and the courses are quiet and there is also very little else to do down here around that time!

Enjoying the Australian Golf Passport pod, really well put together and interesting takes and information. Heading down to the National in January and looking forward to my first look at what Doak has done.

The Old at the National has similar vibes as Joondalup in WA, I am a little partial having grown up near it and still think Joondalup is better. Both RTJ courses.

Still yet to get up and play Joondalup, even though it’s only about 40 mins away.

Also, @ScottW if you do manage to wangle that work trip out West, let me know & i’ll see if I can assist getting you on a couple of places. I’m not a member anywhere but know some folks at Mount Lawley & the head greenskeeper at WAGC, though you may have reciprocals, etc. Be good to show you round a couple of the public offerings, too.

I was a member for a couple years at WAGC. Such a fun course and Idris does a great job.

WA has some of the best public access courses. Joondalup, Araluen, the Vines and the Mandurah courses all good. Not all are flash but a place like Wembley is great for bringing people in to the game.

I really want to get to WA but its so goddamn far from Melbourne etc. Australia is like Canada.

Yup, full agree. Just wish there was a few more tee times available :joy:

Carramar is underrated IMO, too. We had a bloke from the Perth thread (RIP basically) put together a really solid rundown of the courses to play for someone who was arriving on a work contract. I’ll dig it out and repost in here incase it’s of any interest for folks heading over.

I played cricket with Idris’ son Corey for a few years. Chook is a good fella.

Just to entice people for this potential Barnbougle trip - managed to find a day without rain, which has been very rare recently

The stuff of nightmares… hit 6 balls at that green. Zero GIR, 3 lost balls

Earlier this year I went back fringe in the morning with no breeze and long left valley of death in the afternoon hitting into a stiffening breeze. Walked off with a 3 and a 4, pretty special hole that one.

Which of the Barnbougle courses is this?

Looks nasty but epic.
Very excited about March 2023.

Intimidating shot first thing in the morning.

No wind, less intimidation. Still, not a big target no matter what time of day it is!

Probably 50000 balls in that grass.
