I’m thinking about moving on from my Fuji x100s if anyone wants to take prime to the next level.

You keeping your lenses or are you moving to a whole new system?

Man, digging through the vault here for my favorites.

Hah the x100s (and the x100 line more generally) only has one lens - permanently attached to the camera!

Silly me! I definitely don’t know the whole Fuji lineup yet

Single focal length is awesome. I kept the 35mm 2.8 on my d5000 most of the time

Btw for those lurking in the thread who are interested in learning more about photography, how to adjust shutter speed/aperture/ISO (what those things even are) or anything else about expanding and improving their photos, PLEASE don’t hesitate to ask.

I’m self taught. I don’t know everything, but I know myself and a LOT of others in here are happy to help answer questions or geek out about stuff. Worst case - there’s a shortcut for trying to capture what you want to capture.

As in golf, we all get better when we help each other out.

Spray and pray.

You’re welcome.

I’m one of the lurkers. This is my Mom’s camera and lens from High School, I’ve toyed with the idea of bringing it back to life. It takes film, has a lot of settings on the lens and camera…so I’d probably look into taking a class or two at a local CC or adult workshop type situation.

I really don’t know anything about this camera - do you think the best course of action is taking to a local photography store to get an idea on what it needs, if anything?

No danger in throwing some cheap film in and seeing how they come out!

You need to figure out if/how the onboard light meter works first. I would find a manual online and there should be a way to test if it is working, sometimes they die. If it’s not working you may need to buy a battery or use a separate lightmeter (there are some phone apps that work OK)

The first roll will tell you if there are any light leaks in the body or other damage. After that you could take it to a shop for servicing. Looking at ebay prices, the cost of servicing will be about the same price as the camera though, just a warning.

Appreciate the information, this is a lot better than just handing it off to a shop. I will likely enjoy figuring out the camera on my own vs paying someone to tell me whats wrong.

Order some fresh batteries since the current ones are toast.

Also learned how to open the film door, and there’s a roll in there. Not sure what’s on this roll since this camera hasn’t been used in ages, so hoping the film is ok inside of there. Could get interesting.

I’m the same way. Self taught. Spray and pray is always an option and allows you to figure out what works and what doesn’t. I’m constantly looking at YouTube videos and websites for how to get better at my photography so always welcome to people looking to learn!

One of the things I was thinking about with this thread was maybe doing some kind of “theme shot” to give us all an excuse to flex our creative muscles. Some would be composition/theme related (I.e. “something hidden in plain sight,” or “use a foreground object to frame the subject”), some would be more technical (“shoot something moving at a shutter speed below 1/20”). I would definitely crowd source suggestions if things get rolling. Is that something folks would be interested in? Polls below!

Would you be interested in some kind of themed photo assignment/competition?

  • I would love to have some kind of theme photo “thing” to spur my creativity!
  • I’m unsure if I would participate, but I like the idea.
  • I wouldn’t be interested.

How often would you like between a new theme/suggestion and the day to post the fruits of your labor/start the next one?

(Vote for up to your two favorites)

  • I would like two weeks
  • I would like three weeks
  • I would like a month
  • I hate easy measures, and 5 weeks is my jam
  • I am not interested

Not my thing, but definitely not a bad idea. A lot of the photography subreddits have monthly theme shoot threads like this and people seem to love em

Yeah I was going to suggest do a monthly theme and get whatever photos you can inside of that theme

I did a small project around photography in high school and really enjoyed learning about it as well as tooling around in Photoshop. Some photos from today, where it was almost 60 with bluebird skies all day. These are taken on a Pixel 6 and the Google photos editor

Sick, i think i tend to lean towards enjoying trying to capture that perfect sunset or sunrise photo alot. Where on Lake Huron? The sunsets on that lake are chefs kiss. I’ve never seen the green flash but have worked with guys that swear they have.
