The Darkroom: general photography posts and discussion

Since we’re doing recs:

My Rebel T3i has been my workhorse since I got into shooting, and I am thinking about upgrading to something with a little more capability in terms of shutter speed and FPS when shooting continuously, possibly mirrorless?

Ideally, I’d like to continue using the Canon EF lenses I already have, or at least have that ability, so probably leaning toward staying in the Canon family.

Happy to buy used, would like to keep it under $1000.

Your timing is PERFECT

I’m going to be looking to move a 7D mark ii (previously used for baseball - but unfortunately I’m not shooting baseball full season anymore) with a kit 18-135 F3.5-5.6 included. Maybe 30k frames or so - 4.5/5 condition

With the shipping would definitely be under $1k…any interest?

(My first camera was a Rebel Ti3 as well…LOVED that thing)

I’m a Fujifilm X convert having started with Canon (and having a brief I’ll-fated flirt with a Leica M9).

I adapt all my old EF glass with a Fringer adapter which means all of the electronic functions are preserved (eg autofocus). It works brilliantly. Fujifilm makes fantastic lenses too, Canon tried to cover all bases and you really had to search for good glass, I don’t feel that is ever an issue with FF.

Combined two New Years resolutions today and went for a 2 mile hike in the snow with the camera. Trying to work my way into wildlife and landscape photography while getting more active in and around the local Forest Preserves and parks.

Was looking for birds as an easy way to start - but ended up finding these two muskrats out on the ice.

Next time I’ll bring something with more reach than the 70-200…

Any and all feedback from wildlife and landscape folks is GREATLY appreciated.

Roll 1 complete and off for developing! Off to a hot start. Anyone else have any goals for photography this year? New techniques to learn or places to shoot?

Get better.

Edit to add: This is a goal for me, not a comment at you…

Shoot more often so that I can post my work more consistently.

Learn to use an AE-1 I found at my parents house by taking a roll’s work of pictures at least once a month.

Love this. Took me a bit to even figure out what I was looking at (first thought was a macro shot of a tire tread).

You won’t need a lot of practice. The place does the hard work for you!

Appreciate your confidence… but I still want to make sure I get some good ones!

I’m doing another project365 this year. My first and last one was during 2020. Just need a reason to keep my camera with me and shoot more. I have so many good photos from 2020, also the year my daughter was born, and need the external goal to keep documenting life and building habits.
