The Darkroom: general photography posts and discussion

These are unreal. Mind if I ask the general area where you took these shots or are they scattered?

Thanks! The waterfall shots were in Maryland at Patapsco State Park. The rest are from Wyoming and Montana - landscape/mountain shots are from a backpacking trip in the Tetons, as were the shots of the Moose (Meese?) that I was lucky enough to hike up on. The Bison, wolf and the elk were all in Yellowstone. Absolutely beautiful country, hoping to go back again.

Right on. Never been to that part of the states but it looks so much like B.C. Looks like you got your money’s worth with all the wildlife sightings.

Sounds like I need to get to B.C!

This the 15? I was similarly blown away by it this past weekend taking some shots at a EDM show in Atlanta. Just remarkable low light quality from a phone camera.

Yes sir it’s the 15.

These photos are enough to convince me to upgrade from the 13 Pro very soon. Have been considering it but was teetering. That’s remarkable quality.

And don’t forget the new iPhone is titanium

Sounds like we need to roll back the iPhone

But being serious, what’s the advantage of that? A bit lighter?

Allegedly, but I will tell you that moving from an 11 pro max to a 15 pro max, the sumbitch is still heavy AF.

In terms of weight, I truly can’t tell a difference between my 15 pro and my old 11 pro

Thanks! The stuff you posted is fantastic as well! I’ll have to get you the exact exposure time and ISO for those shots cause I don’t know them off the top of my head, but it’s a Fuji XT5 with a Viltrox lens f/1.4. I think 13mm. I’ll have to double check what I did, but I think it’s a merge of 3 photos. One under exposed like a step/step and a half. One normal exposure. One over exposed a step/step and a half. You just can’t let your exposure go for too long otherwise the stars start trailing.

SICK, love hearing you shot that on an XT-5. I expect your image quality is going to be a tad better than I’ll get with the XT-3 but should be able to get some decent shots with my new Fuji 18mm F/1.4 lens. Wider would probably be ideal but I wanted a little more versatility in the first prime lens I was shelling out for. Although I hadn’t really considered the Viltrox lenses, figured they must be cheaper for a reason, but damn, after seeing yours, has me re-thinking that.

Yeah you should be fine at 18mm. Should be wide enough. I saw the Viltrox lens from I think his name is Andy Mumford on YouTube. He had recommend Viltrox for f 1.x lens and so I got one on Black Friday last year. Works pretty good for what I need it for. You’ll do good with yours though for sure

Does anyone have recs for camera bags? Need space for my camera (obvi) and an extra lens or maybe the drone. I’m leaning toward some kind of crossbody/sling, but would also consider a backpack.

I bought a Brevite for like an everyday use backpack that could do some camera carrying as well. I use it to put a camera and couple of lenses. I put my drone on the top side when I take it with me. The dividers aren’t the best, but they do the job. Might be one to look into

I have the two previous iterations of this bag: Bags

And I love it. The bag is a little heavy, but is completely weatherproof, which is huge for me. (All Chrome bags are based on a military tarp material. I’ve been caught in downpours and had the contents of my Chrome bags stay completely dry.) It is well padded, so I use this a lot when I’m going to be shooting in an urban environment.

The other one I use regularly is the Thule Aspect:

I use the Thule when I’m hiking, or know I’ll be walking long distances. It’s lightweight, the hip belt is high quality, there is plenty of storage in the top compartment, and the side access is quick and easy.

I have that and the Everyday backpack. Love PD gear, very thoughtful design in everything they make.

Anyone here using vintage lenses (non-Leica edition)? I’m thinking of going all in on a used GFX 50S and picking up some Pentax 67 glass for x-mas. (In other words, please enable me.)
