The Costco Thread: Age, No. Of Kids, Willingness To Fight Over Ribeye

Got my first executive reward certificate today and happy to report it was enough that I got paid to be a member. :joy::sob:

They used to break it down for you how much monthly you need to spend for it to be a wash, but with the recent increase I am not sure how much that was. We did just buy a TV so we should be good again this year

Am I costing myself money not being an executive member? We go probably every other month and spend $300-$500 a trip usually.

Yes

but seriously you need to spend about 3,000$ to recoup the extra 60 bucks.

believe the math is about $500 a month it pays for itself

nvm @Kerry got it

How it has always worked for my family (of 3) is about $100 every 7-10 days give or take and rely on them for larger purchases (TV’s, travel, rental cars, etc.). Seems that sort of gets us to our number every year.

So you just get a check back that covers the extra $60? Or is there additional benefits?

yep. They mail it to you about a month or so before your renewal is due

Just an additional 2% cash back

there are if you use Costco for things like travel and what not. You get sort of the premium rental car discounts is the best one I have found. I also think it gets you free shipping online(?) but not entirely sure on that.

Your membership card is black. Can’t put a price on that.

Yes. Get the credit card so you get double payback plus 5% back on gas.

What are the three bullet points benefits of the Costco credit card and is that a better net benefit than my CSR?

5% Costco gas
4% anywhere gas
3% Costco purchases

Annual fee covers your executive membership

I’ve been thinking about getting one. I only have one Visa card and it’s to Amazon, and we order way less from them than we used to. Would be nice to hammer 2% on my trips and fill up each time.

the executive card doesn’t give 2% back on gas. see all the caveats here

Sorry, just meant 2% in my trips to Costco, and also get gas before I leave.

I make about $250-$300 back every year from the CC and executive rewards. I exclusively use the CC at Costco and for gas. That’s it … and I work from home and our other car’s gas is paid for on a corporate card.

I get gas at Costco maybe 1-2x a year. the gas station right outside our neighborhood is a Sinclair and with 10 cents off per gallon via the app, it’s just more convenient to get it there with the 4% vs. the 5% at Costco.

Thanks, I didn’t need have this math done knowing what the refund was.

It isn’t.

It definitely wouldn’t replace a CC you already have and like. Just depending on Costco spend may be worth adding to your wallet.
I have it, it’s fine. I think we save upwards of dozens of dollars by having it, ymmv.
