All I can say about the halfway house is $10 double transfusions were a fucking steal.
The key is to blade your tee shot both days so if you hit the bunker it doesn’t plug and if not your over the green!
Someone in our group bladed it into a fried egg…
I hadn’t really thought about this but I agree a lot. Here’s a picture of 18 with it mowed down. The aesthetics are a lot better for me and I think it’s much more fair for a bunker shot that doesn’t get out to roll back down rather than just being a lost ball that might not have even traveled 10 yards and interesting for any shots from the fairway that are short to roll in rather than get stuck up/lost.
Not sure I’ve ever agreed with something more. I got one the first day and when I unwrapped it I legitimately thought they had forgotten to put the hot dog in and it was just a bun.
Counterpoint, everything I ordered booze wise felt like a steal to this city boy
It was the first time I did not want that dog in me
You sir are a wild man. A legendary risk taker.
I might ship them some proper hot dogs, I was that disappointed.
One of my bigger regrets of the weekend, not getting the chili. I was close to ordering a second dog just to try it.
They just put a bunch of sand in like 2 weeks ago. The bunkers weren’t nearly that soft or inconsistent last year. So hopefully just a blip
I stepped in one and sank up to my ankles.
There was a bit of crust on the top that may save your ball, but some of those bunkers had sand the consistency of volcanic ash.
I saw they were unloading truck loads of sand on D2 in the maintenance area under 16, think the sand is work in progress.
Sounds like there should be an improvement for next year, which will be welcome.
This trip has prompted me to look for a very very lightweight Sunday type bag.
I got caught out with my big cart bag and even though I emptied it out Monday it was still too much to push around that place on D2 in the heat.
A half set and a light Sunday bag will be in play if I ever go back (while still hoping to take a cart).
That place is too severe to push and I don’t think my electric MGI could handle the terrain.
I surprisingly felt better yesterday than I did Monday morning. Maybe it was the 120oz of water I drank.
I however, went and worked out last night and my legs were definitely less explosive than usual
These are slightly smaller than the old 1990s Ping back they evoke memories of. I saw one last month, and I am presently saving pocket change towards it’s acquisition.
How did I miss you for two days?
Alright y’all, I’ve had a day to decompress and get my body/thoughts back in order. Here is my official Cornstalk 2024 post mortem:
Fuck.
FUCK. What a weekend you guys. First off, y’all are fucking champions for making that walk back to back days. It was tough. It was not impossible as evidenced by the fact that everyone who was physically able to do it still did it despite being grumpy about the cart situation (I was also grumpy about the cart situation). For me, the fact that only one or two who knew they physically couldn’t make it on Day 2 were the only ones who bailed early signifies that the course and company was, in fact, special enough to make the physical stress worthwhile.
Let’s do the important stuff first, then we can talk about winners.
- 112 players, 0 no-shows*
*1 WD (injured reserve) - 20 states by my count, let me know if I missed any: CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, TX, VA, WA, WI
- 14 Roosts represented
- Over $400 raised for Gillette Childrens’ Specialty Care (if anyone sends in for a corporate match on this, let me know! I’ll post the receipt here once I’ve deposited the cash and made the donation)

- Everyone’s feet/knees/will to live coming up the hill on 18 on Monday
- That fucking travesty of a hot dog at the halfway house
- Everyone who couldn’t be arsed to make it for the group photo
Again, THANK YOU ALL for an incredible weekend. I appreciate all the thanks I got over the last two days (and especially the, "tell me we’re doing this again next year"s), but none of this happens if y’all don’t show up and show the fuck out. You’re all tremendous humans and I am a proud papa today. Can’t wait to do it again next year (ideally feat. carts). If I tagged you here, it means I owe you booze the next time I see you.
One more tag since I was at the max - congrats to @StrokesGainedDrunk for winning the putting contest with his lag to 2’ 4.5". I’ll put you in touch with @Mackmade to get things rolling.
That was the tough thing about standard tee times that stretched 8 hours. By the time some people teed off others were finishing and ready to head out.
Got the bad side of the draw I suppose!
Also just realized I left my very nice yardage book from Landmand in the push cart. Rats.
To wrap up, thanks to the tournament committee of @bignanski @kcurry11 for this. It was brutal, but it was fun. Look forward to the next one.
