Day 2 walking and carrying. Estimated mileage was 10.5. I’m guessing it’s one of the harder walks in golf only made harder by the lack of basic amenities such as water, benches on the tee boxes, restrooms and shade etc etc.
Apparently Danish farmers are hard as fucking nails.
I caught myself thinking this on multiple occasions. Like how does this place even exist? Truly an engineering marvel and also feeling like I was playing golf in a National Park.
This was my take away. As a self-aware thicc boi, my goal was just to finish. Honestly, when we received the news we were going to walk the second day I had a mix of emotions from being ”disgruntled”, to bargaining why I should just go play Old Dane instead and then ultimately telling myself, “it’s not going to kill you, so suck it up and embrace it”.
Overall, it was a fun 3 days of golf and another huge shoutout to @bignanski and @kcurry11 for the extra work (and patience) it takes to organize and run one of these events.
Looks like it moved off the home page since it’s completed. Go to Events tab at the bottom then scroll to Past Events and it’s there.
In retrospect, ordering a chili dog with that walk remaining and only 911 shitters available was quite the alpha move by Luke.
It was fair to be blown away by that.
My opinion on the course that nobody asked for: I have my critiques of a few holes/features, but on the hole the place is fun as hell and has some GREAT holes. It’s incredible that this exists and that they are keeping it public at a rate that makes it a great value. Living close by I have the option of two rounds at a very mediocre course or playing that once, it’s an easy call for me.
I can’t remember exactly where we were, but on Sunday I remember looking to my left and barely being able to make out people on the far side of the property on a tee box and thinking “Holy shit, it goes out that far?”
I loved the place and will gladly go back. I think it would be a lot of fun to sherpa some first-timers around and watch them experience some of those holes for the first time. (Edit to add: @FrostyWalrus had a 70 YARD putt on 15 and it’s not even the biggest green, how can you not love an experience like that. It’s rare you get totally unique experiences on the course.)
My four main complaints:
1 - I didn’t see anywhere where I could grab a handful of tees or ballmarkers. I’m cheap and love free stuff. Maybe I just missed it. But there were tees for sale at the halfway house.
2 - lack of benches
3 - like @ahrensgody said, not having a left pin on the redan in either round was a major bummer
4 - without a doubt it was the worst golf course hotdog I’ve ever seen or eaten. It was offensive. As a hot dog fan there should be an investigation and possibly criminal charges for whoever is responsible. Just throw it on some rollers or something, it can’t be hard to do better than that. The turkey, bacon, ranch wrap at the halfway house on day 1 was exceptional, the drop off from that to that hotdog was a travesty.

Am I just an idiot
Yes I am, I was trying to find it in the app, on the website it’s right there.
Of your 4 complaints you spent the most real estate on the hot dog
And that still doesn’t do justice to how offensive that hot dog was
The offensive hot dogs felt like being a road team in a shitty locker room and the home team turned off the AC,
I bow down to your take
Fair. It really did make me the most mad. It’s such a layup. If terrible munis can produce a suitable hotdog, it can’t be hard to make one that’s OK. The place is incredible, the food truck food is very good. Just don’t sell a hotdog.

It was egregious without a doubt. A dirty water dog on a dry bun…so disappointing.
Please someone at Landmand take a trip to Sand Valley and see how to do hallway house munchies right.
Don’t even have to go that far, just check out a 7-11.

Hot dog was much better with chili/onions/mustard both visually and from a taste perspective.

The redan is too rigged to funnel left. Looks very appealing but if you have a left pin and throw it anywhere on the right side with a draw, fade, slice, hook spin it ends up there. Should be forced to match correct shot shape to get it down there. D1 pin was arguably more interesting than a left pin because you had to hit the correct shot to get it close. See Pac Dunes redan.
Thoughts from last place. (I am confident that I can claim the High Gross)
Huge Ballpark but too many blind shots. Might not be blind from the tee but when you get to your ball in the fairway things disappear in the hills.
Benches: Not too much of a concern as most will ride and have a comfy padded seat.
Water: This was the big fail. I don’t care walking riding you need water on the course. Monday there was water on 3 Tee and 14 Tee with the 7th halfway house. For the temperatures and with people walking more water was needed.
Not a garbage can on the course: Again riding not a problem Walking I guess we were in the pack it in pack it out model.
Overall Was the course too difficult for someone with my ability No. It was a great challenge. The rub of the green was not in my favor several times.
Would I do it again? Heck yes (with a cart)
And as many have said Huge thank to @bignanski and @kcurry11 For all their work and time to making this past weekend so much Fun.
Now off to enjoy my High Gross prize of Lucky Guys Watermelon Vodka !! Cheers!!
Been looking at photos of the course on-line today and read a feature Golf Digest did, noticing that the bunkers are trimmed in all of the online pics which is not what we experienced. They had just cut the barrancas on #3 when we played it Sunday afternoon, does anyone know is that the expectation/norm for all of the bunkers as well?
I like the look much better with it trimmed, that wispy knee-high grass on the front of every bunker annoyed me for some reason. Someone said they normally open in May, so maybe still getting the course fully ready for the season?
I think it’s going to be a blend of the 2. I know that they were probably having issues with getting maintenance out there this weekend, but when it isn’t a fucking swamp, the grass won’t nearly be as thick and should be nice and whispy.
Imo the biggest issue with the course condition was the bunkers themselves. They’ve always had issues with wash out, but holy fuck was it bad. The bottom of the bunkers had 18" of sand, it was wildly inconsistent everywhere. I’m totally for the “bunkers are hazards” but not in the way that those were.
Does anyone have thoughts on the amount of fried eggs? The bunkers were often very penal just on location and then that felt extra harsh to me.
I had a mega fried egg on #12, came up just short of the green on that par 3. It was buried probably an inch, automatic triple there for me. On a couple other bunker shots, it was hard to get a footing b/c sand was moving so much.
I don’t know much about course conditions, but the sand seemed incredibly soft given how “wet” the course supposedly was.

An all-time rub of the green for me. They had cut the front half when we got to 3, I hit it into the back half. An hour later and it might not have taken me 3 shots for me to get out.
