The Cornstalk 2025 @ Landmand GC (Homer, NE) - May 31-Jun 1, 2025

My BiL had one in the face of the front bunker on 12 that was entirely submerged, we had to look for a couple minutes before he eventually stepped underneath it and finally found it

I’m glad you went back to swap your ball marker for the milk carton one after that experience!

Had to have been the one of the best shots of the 2 days! So sick seeing that 2nd shot go in. How far out were you? If I remember correctly it was around here:

I’m reading this story thinking “shit, same thing happened to the guys we played with on Sunday!”.

No dummy, check the handle :joy:

This is correct. I think I had the scorecard in my hands ready to give it to you, and then was blown away by the chili dog order.

I had this exact same lie. Chipped it out and into the thick stuff on top of bunker. Could hardly find it. Took an unplayable.

Made 6.

So fun.

He did the same thing again Monday even worse :joy: gotta get my guy to learn his carry numbers lol

I have many takes on Landmand, like for instance, is it a “great” golf course? Maybe? But first allow me to say something first, @bignanski and his crew put on a top-notch event and was able to secure two days worth of tee-times at a crazy popular brand new golf course. Big thanks to them for that.

As for the course, is it great? I’m sure for a lot of people it is. Landmand provides a challenge for all types of players for any number of reasons. If you like being beaten over the head with a hammer, many times, then boy do I have a course for you. There were rarely times were I had reasonable chances to even get to greens much less be able to hold them. The number of times I had to go driver-5 wood were too many to count. It was so frustrating, already not good to begin with now I got to hope that I catch a lucky break to get it somewhere close to these crazy greens. I think another question is, did walking the course both days affect your opinion of the golf course? It would be impossible not too. For someone to claim they had designed a course great for walking, is ridiculous. I gave it two shots and will tell you that’s not who it’s for. No park benches on any holes, a halfway house at 7 and nowhere else to even find shade, can you at least give me a toilet on the back 9? I’m asking for normal things that wouldn’t affect the course, just some added benefits. I had great experiences there with many people, some of them loved it and some like me strongly disliked it. I completely understand why people do love it, it’s fucking huge for Christ sakes. The sheer scale of it is astounding. I kind want them to have a slogan that says “It’s fucking Land, man” The greens are legitimately super fun, really cool humps and bumps. But this was not for me, and honestly I think that’s ok.

All that being said, Landmand is pretty great but not great for me.

Did you not see the 911 shitter after 4? I know you made it that far.

Seemed clear that a person could create their own 911 shitter virtually anywhere on the course.

I’m thinking about coming every year to share the story of the 1st cornstalk.

Many people out there took years off their lives. There may not be anyone left alive. Someone must be appointed to keep the memory alive.

Damn, wish I would have looked on here days ago. Still have it?

First and most importantly @bignanski and team - thanks for setting this up. Great job and looking forward to year 2 next year.

My take on Landmand and this experience. It’s a great course that challenges all in different ways. It asks different questions on each shot and no two people will play it the same way. It allows each person to get creative and that is a very enjoyable way to play golf. I wish more courses embraced this mind set.

I’ve been lucky enough to play it before a couple of times all in carts. I was always tired at the end as you still get a lot of walking in. I always wanted to walk it once after hearing Rob Collins describe the course as walkable and that was part their design. However, after walking once, it was clear the walk was only for the true golf sickos and The typical golfer there would not make it. Add to it the Lack of benches, shade, water stations, no beverage cart, etc and that made it even harder. Maybe it isn’t as walkable as they think.

So getting to walk it two days in a row…truly crazy.

But after giving it 24 hours to sink in, I can say that we all accomplished something that very few ever will do. We all have something to be proud of and can look back on as one of the best experiences we will ever have in golf. True golf sickos completing the two day endurance test and passing it.

So How did we complete it? By playing golf with Roost members that love golf, crazy experiences, and are some of the best guys in the country. We couldn’t let each other down. We got to spend 18 holes each day helping each other make it through with stories, jokes, learning more about people, and acknowledging both good and bad golf shots.

I’m thankful for the past two days and will remember this as one of the best golf experiences I will ever have with some of the best dudes around. Thank you and I’m looking forward to next year already.

Albeit with a cart :grinning:
