Got my work cut out for me against the net menace who is already on a rampage this year - should be fun! Thanks again @Swing_hard_and_hope for all your work setting this up.
And my congrats to you Mr @tigergolftraveler. Iām a perpetual 9-10 cap who blacked out for the month of July finding myself on a heater shooting some scores Iāve never seen. All of which has landed me at an extremely uncomfortable index of 5.2 and coming off a couple week trip to Montana where the clubs stayed home and I couldnāt ride the streak. A true who could say situation awaits for which BushwoodCaddie shows up getting no strokes. Looking forward to launching em with you! Iāll hit you up in the chat so we can figure out when/where.
One round of 32 match is on the books. I took on @Hawk at Holly Ridge Golf Links. (Not a Links course).
I was giving Hawk 4 shots but I entered as the winner of my pod and a half hole lead. I got off to a good start going 2 up after 2 but Hawk hung in there and took advantage of his shots.
We turned with me still 2 up and I won 10 to go 3 up. At this point I was feeling pretty good. Unfortunately, I blew up on 12, 13 and 14 while Hawk held steady.
All square on the 15th and with Hawk popping on 16 I knew what I had to do. I won 15 and like I figured, Hawk won 16.
All square on 17. I knew if I won the hole we would be done. I got the fairway and my approach was on the fringe. Hawk was in the right rough and caught a flyer to go long left. Feeling good again and, spoiler , I shouldnāt. Hawk made an amazing up and down and I lipped out my par put to go 1 down.
Now I have to win the par 5 18th. Hawk pipes a drive and I hit into the trees on the left. I have a shot and hit a nice 5 WD to 100 yards out. Hawk plays smart decides to lay up also. I leave my approach on the right fringe and chip to 7 feet. Hawk leaves his approach short. Hawk hit his first putt short and misses the 2nd. I have a 7 footer to win.
Congrats to Hawk for the win. He played great on the back and deserved to move on. I just didnāt make the putts when I needed. The triple, double, double stretch on the back is what really did me in.
Got out for a round of 32 match with @JNorwoodFive and @KyaKona as witness at Keith Hills (about equidistant between us). On what was yet another hot, humid, and still day in central NC, we found a nice 3 hour patch of partly sunny skies to enjoy launching some golf balls.
There were many words of caution about how KH is not a long hitters paradise, and while that is for sure, I did keep the ball in play and came out swinging. Some big putts to save pars and halve holes led me to being 2 up through 9. After a quick exchange on 10 and 11, I putt the hammer down nearly jarring it on 12, sticking it to about 5 feet on 13, and being the benefactor of an errant tee shot on 14 led to a 5 and 4 win right as the horn was blowing to get us off the course.
It was a pleasure to meet both guys and one of the common topics of conversation was how great the CLC is, how much fun this even has been to meet new people, and play some new courses. So with that, the requisite tip of the cap to @Swing_hard_and_hope and on to the Sweet 16!
What was not captured on the video was Hawk also falling on the ground as he won on the lipout
Which 9ās did you play? Orange-black?
White to Orange. Not the best option, but course was in great shape. greens were mostly recovered
Will have to have you out to my new club. A couple straight-away par 5ās youād enjoy. Layout is similar to Pine Hollow but conditions are better.
Iām free next weekend.
@Blackngold35 and I squared off today at the lovely Bermuda Run east course in our round of 32 match. This dude is a player, through and through. He spotted me 8 shots and I feel pretty certain that I needed them all to come out on top. I started out with a half hole lead, courtesy of @Swing_hard_and_hopeās fantastic rules, but the lead was quickly erased after BG25 hit a 300+ yard drive and pitch n putt for birdie on 1. I knew I was in for a long, hot, sweaty day, and I just hoped I could hold on to make it a little interesting. My driver was pathetic for most of todayās round. I saw a lot of the right side of the golf course, finding OB three times on the outward nine.
As we made the turn, I was 1.5 holes down. After a brief rain shower, we teed off on 10. I aimed as far left as I could and somehow managed to keep the ball in play by finding the fairway bunker on the far right side. I bladed a five iron, smoothed a sand wedge and sunk a 10-footer for birdie, much to everyoneās surprise. The next few holes went very differently than I expected. I made a bunch of pars by hitting fairways and greens. In the end, I took the W on number 16 with a par to his bogey.
We had a great time playing together and I look forward to teeing it up again!
Shoutout to @Very.chipper for chaperoning us and keeping us on our toes.
Checkās in the mail for posting this line on the interwebs.
Really enjoyable day despite us dumbasses walking on a humid day. Truly turned into the swamp ass invitational by around the 7th hole.
@Double_Bogey_Dave and I also had our round of 32 match out at Mid Pines today. It was another ridiculously humid day in the Sandhills of NC in the middle of August but we somehow dodged the rain that seemed to be all around us. @yungbunzz joined us as well for a really fun round.
I went 1 up on Dave right away thanks to the 8 strokes I was getting but never got more than 2 up through the first 14 holes thanks to both of us playing some middling golf. Dave got it all square a few times but I was able to pull ahead and finally put him away with back to back pars on 15 & 16 for the 4&2 win.
Sorry Iām not the wordsmith that some others are but itās always a pleasure to play with @Double_Bogey_Dave and fun to finally play in the same group with @yungbunzz. Donāt pass up the opportunity to play with either of them if you get the chance.
Great synopsis of our round yesterday! Great time and with great guys and thatās what itās all about. The course was in great shape and I cannot wait to go back and play it again. Although I was 1 down after 10 it really never felt that close lolā¦Then the next 4 holes happened and it was freaking awesome to see. Congrats and best of luck @pluds26! Safe travels as wellā¦
Managed to nip @Cody 2 & 1 at an undisclosed location.
There was a pillow fight mid-round, followed by a three hole par streak by yours truly that got things rolling in my direction. I won the 15th hole with a bogey as Mr. Cody had an adventure in the trees. A birdie on the 16th, 195 yard par 3 into the wind, 5I to 2 feet got me 2 up. Managed a 5 for 4 on 17 to close it out.
I will not be responding to allegations that my win was solely due to the 8 strokes I received. Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.
Pace of play was aspirational - less than 3 hours, played through one other foursome, saw nobody else except some maintenance guys playing cards on the third hole.
Thanks to Cody for a great afternoon and his hospitality.
Onto the round of 16.
@Carmstrong32 and I will be playing our Round of 32 match at Mill Creek in Mebane on Saturday at 11:30. @DSimpson will be joining as the pacer. We have one spot open if anyone is interested. $65 to walk or ride.
After a couple of days of mourning, I can finally provide an update on my match v. Andrew B.
Neither of us really came out of the gate hot. Double Bogey, Bogey, Double Bogey won the first three holes of the day. I can only blame @ColoniusFunk and the assortment of beer, cocktails, sake, then more cocktails the night before our 7:30 am tee time. Thanks for providing a convenient excuse for my abysmal play.
The Duke course was a good one, the temp was fine, the humidity was at a mathematically impossible 186%. We were joined by the aforementioned @ColoniusFunk and a random single who was getting in a quick round while the kid he he was dropping off at college that day was still in bed. Shout out Rick from upstate NY. Hybrid off the tee for 165 is a bold play on 400+ yd par fours, but you did it you crazy bastard, you did it.
In the end, Andrew was less garbage than me, and he took the day 5&4.
While I was disappointed, @ColoniusFunk was absolutely crushed by my loss. So much so, that as soon as the match was settled, he sat down and refused to play anymore. Maybe it had to do with the fact that he was walking and had lost 98% of the moisture in his body via sweat, but I like to think he was just so emotionally invested in me that he just didnāt have the will to continue.
Bets are won before you hit your first tee shot, but matches are lost the night before at the Kingfisher bar.
Looks like 6 of the 16 matches still need to be played, get on it folks!
