So first, it seems like I lost my partner in crime @ColoniusFunk hate to see that. @JohnP backed out of a Commonwealth Cup battle, now I lost a teammate…
Second, I am a little confused on the format here. Maybe I am just dumb, but would love a little clarity as I start my mental prep. I can see I am going to be OB all day and therefore my quota attempt will be futile, but is the battle NC vs VA for most points to quota? Then the best person from that team gets the NIT spot?
The OB… is not always close to being in play. Its a pretty open course TBH, just has houses on it so we have lots of white stakes. Course rating from whites is 70, at a par 73. Its gettable.
VA vs NC for total points for the border battle. the winning team will then vote on who gets the NIT bid. Their choice.
I lost three balls on drives there. #’s 6,12, & 15.
The house never really came into play. 5 is very wide your gonna want to be towards the left to avoid the pond. #6 is a short par 4 but I went to the right into the trees. #15 I went right again.
Sat weather - high of 87 25% chance of stray cell but nothing major. Winds 5-10 (at ap this means 10-15 as we sit on the ridge line) and should be a bit cooler and less humid than the forecast.
I have highlighted a few folks in the sheet that are still unconfirmed. They are listed below along with my theories on what’s happened…
@very.chipper - List for both this event and the SC sweatfest. No comms from him on the Refuge or the CLC WhatsApp since shortly after we were at the Peoria event. I fear that the cart girl from Peoria CC, who’s number Paul managed to get, lured him into a hotel room in rural Illinois and then stole his kidneys. Ts & Ps, my gui. Verdict - Very unlikely to show / possibly victim of organ harvesting
@rva_fightingscot48 - No Refuge activity since mid-April. I can only assume that someone named Scot misunderstood his user name, took offense, and drug him out behind the cart barn at Belmont for a beating. (*actual update - he has been busy at work and won’t be able to make it, confirmed via text just now) Verdict - Confirmed Out
@ShortPar4 - Last Refuge post was signing up for this event. Probably saw that there were multiple Par 4’s over 400 yds and decided this just wasn’t for him. Verdict - very unlikely to show.
@TwoTonsOfIrony - This one’s simple. What’s more ironic that enthusiastically signing up for an event and then ghosting? Verdict - very unlikely to show (but I do have a text out to him to double check)
really really appreciate all your work and effort on this. I would have liked for a much better turn out obviously, but its also my first event, and a learning process too. Either way, we’re gonna have a hell of a fun weekend guise.
Summer events are tough. Family vacations, kids at home. Lots of conflicts. You also see posting / reading the Refuge drop off in the summer. Playing golf take the place of reading about golf, and folks forget that they signed up for stuff.
All that is on top of the normal 20%+ drop out rate that happens at all events.
I should have mentioned, I talked to Brad last week. Made sure he understood you reaching out to Olde Mill wasn’t bullshit. Evidently, they get screwed with a lot from people reaching out and never showing up. He said he would pass it along that you were genuinely interested in hosting an NLU sponsored event there.
Glad to hear the ball is rolling on the Olde Mill front.
I saw they had run an outing recently, maybe the grint tour possibly? Its such a bargain and with housing on site and primland down the road would be a nice nice NLU venue
