Strapped: Spring Training! (Arizona) - Touching Fingies and Budget Analysis

“I really think that’s the one barrier to you playing for the Yankees” still has me laughing this morning

“Gut Feeling” is such a perfect song. I was so stoked when I heard those first guitar notes appear.

@djpie @justine Did DOGTOWN & Z-BOYS influence that choice? It’s used perfectly in that movie.

Awesome episode, maybe the best Strapped ever. And the closing credits were a delight.

Bravo…

Really surprised to see as much negative backlash to this season on social media as I have. Lots of complaints about lack of golf. Was a little taken aback that so many people watch Strapped for the golf which for me is probably the most boring part of it. Neil and Randy just being themselves (regardless of setting) with a bit of DJ thrown in going to new places and highlighting cool people is way more interesting than watching them play golf. Maybe it strays a little bit from the what Strapped was meant to be but I don’t think I care.

Where is this negative backlash?

Considering the end goal is to have a Strapped season completely devoid of golf(here for it), I think the guys are moving in the right direction. @MerchCzar taking body shots in putt-putt in pursuit of the micro-B while an instrumental of “No Surprises” plays. Truly bruises that won’t heal.

Great job, again!

Totally agree, but after all these seasons I remain very invested in seeing Neil hit the mega bonus and shed his Icarito wings.

IG had some. TC was getting in some asses of the Phoenix bros that said they didn’t showcase enough of their great public golf scene. Amazing that people still think Strapped is purely a show about golf.

Will he shed the wings or buy better wings and fly directly into the sun? That’s the real question

Jason was such an awesome addition to this episode…could you imagine that episode with Hawk Harrelson, that would have been something

Sherriff Joe would have had to step in.

Enter Sandman with Neil jogging in from the outfield is so good. GREAT entrance music for a closer.

The Brockmire joke was so funny.

As @DombrowBryan said stuff like this:

Not out there on social media giving negative backlash but happy to share my thoughts here that I thought it was a weaker season overall.

I don’t watch it for the golf. And it’s not a travel show that makes you want to go somewhere, per se, but rather just exists to highlight a place you’d probably not intentionally travel to and show off some of the golf in that place, the community and people around the golf. I think we got little to none of that minus Dom but still didn’t talk to a single person at the course that I recall. There were great people in it, but the spring training circus wasn’t the same level of community to highlight as others.

And I think the comically restrained budget is somewhat fundamental to the show. Every decision made having a true monetary impact created great entertainment to me. Having the dollars to effectively do whatever they wanted took that element away and made it more travel-y in a way I don’t think it executes on as well.

Edit: Learned what a minus handicap means. Still a loser

In fact, he’s a 4.6.

And I think that’s ok. As a Scottsdale resident I’m willing to admit we maybe don’t have the same kind of community to highlight. People come here for for things like Waste Management and Spring Training and I think it’s ok to embrace that.

Aren’t all instagram comment sections pretty negative?

I don’t disagree to a point. The money round was a bummer but for the same reasons it was a bummer it gave some great moments.

Not all seasons are created equally, which is the point right. If it’s too formulaic why watch? Might as well go watch good good for a scripted production.

I can agree with that so I think maybe my best summary of my thoughts is there is a cool video / short video series out there to highlight the intersection between spring training and golf, but I don’t think it is Strapped.

THIS!

And, while I appreicate coordinating guests and perhaps the need for that for entertainment purposes, part of the charm of the first few seasons of Strapped was the randomness of who they were going to meet and run into. Perhaps there is a way to still work some of that in.
