Haven’t seen this shared here yet. Very good article on our favorite web series.
Also I can’t see Shane Ryan’s name without thinking about the below clip where Paige Mackenzie is close to tears discussing his book “Slaying the Tiger”. I saw this hit live and to this day it’s one of the funnier near meltdowns captured on TV.
Shane had a ton of love for Pieoria too…which is when I felt it started to lose its shine a bit…right up until the Warren Zevon beat kicked in anyways…still my favorite golf moment ever. I have to give those later seasons another shot.
Big agree on this. I’m extremely happy they are continuing Strapped because there are only so many “Film Rooms” I find myself interested in.
Especially with Tourist Sauce being shelved for 2023 it felt like I was going to go way down on NLU, and wider golf-content, consumption outside of a Trap Draw, a few recap/preview pods, and the Refuge.
Truly. Strapped moreso than TS just because it’s more attainable + typically 3 30min episode rather than 10-12 30+ min episodes. Way easier to binge and/or dedicate time to watching.
Oh man…I’m a TS junkie. That’s 2+ months of weekly DJ Pie Golf Trip storytelling. I don’t give any fucks about the courses but the towns…the atmosphere…the buddy trip vibe. It’s the best. 1a and 1b with both series. I get sad strapped is only 3 episodes.
I like Tourist Sauce too. Just like Strapped better because there isn’t a new, contrived competition (my least favorite part of Tourist Sauce) every time.
Couldn’t agree more. I have to admit, lately I see a new Film Room and think “I’ll watch that later.” But Strapped will be an instant view.
Like some others have said and I’ve said in multiple threads, I enjoy the non-golf from these videos more than the golf. There are literally millions of places I can go and watch someone play golf online or even in person. But the on-course and off-course interactions between everyone along with all of the “extra” stuff is what really draws me in to NLU videos. I feel like that’s where they differentiate themselves from other channels.
Very excited for the new season. Strapped and Tourist Sauce are the two that I always watch ASAP. They’re also the avenue through which I’ve introduced lots of friends and family to NLU over the last few years. After watching a few episodes, my brother started listening to all of the podcasts, and has far surpassed me in the amount of NLU content consumed.
My wife doesn’t play golf, doesn’t watch golf on TV, and has no interest in listening to golf podcasts on trips with me. She loves Strapped and enjoys Tourist Sauce a bit. It’s funny when she’ll complain about too much golf or the time they featured Max. Halfway through the episode she was said “who is this guy and why is he the only one talking? Can we have less of him and more of Neil and Randy?”
The glib thing to say after watching the show is that you wish you had friends like Randy and Neil. The truth, which is harder to admit, is that you wish you were a friend like Randy and Neil.
