Imagine what it would be with a 59! No wonder he walked off the course - can’t be giving away that many pops

Please only refer to him by his full name, Richmond Houston from Midland.

The $800 budget was a massive improvement. Watching them hem and haw about whether to get a second Coors Light at dinner becomes a downer after too many seasons. They’re still living a humble existence with only $800 but not to the detriment of a nice 3-day trip with friends.

I felt like the budget wasn’t even relevant.

Crickets is the “expensive” place to drink near campus. Could’ve gone a few blocks over to Bash Riprocks for penny pints*

*No idea if this place still exists or if there are still penny pints

You’d be hard pressed to spend a lot of money in West Texas unless you were going full Oil Magnate.

In the Big Plex discord we were joking that he will make more money at the Midland/Odessa calcuttas than KFT player on the tour.

Would have been hard to squeeze into the one-episode format, but the Odessa College golf team has always historically had some dogs on it. Would love to break down what has led to a school in West Texas having a roster with one American on it right now

I think part of this is the $800 goes a long ways in the middle of absolutely nowhere

Toulouse, France to Odessa, TX might be one wilder moves you can have.

Bummed they didn’t go to real West Texas (i.e., El Paso), but I guess “Neil and Randy join Barrio Nuevo and Los Fatherless for a Cumbia Wepa Dance Off” was really a pipe dream.

Also the lack of golf courses, really

When on a golf trip, yes. Absolutely. My wallet and weekly budget for groceries says otherwise.

Must have heard about the famous West Texas je ne sais quoi

I think part of the point of breaking bad at Myrtle Beach was to illustrate that the budget isn’t really the antagonist of the show, it’s the mega bonus. Can they do a travel show for $500? Sure. Will it be enjoyable to make, and enjoyable to watch? Seems unlikely. Giving each person $150 more in budget makes for a more pleasant experience for all involved, keeps close enough to the original ethos ($400 each for three days of golf and lodging is still really cheap), and lets the guys focus on taking down the real big bad, the C Suite, as personified by the mega bonus.

Paris, Texas isn’t quite what he expected

Agreed. When they got to the end and they said they only spent like $707 it made me feel like the budget wasn’t even relevant which kind of sucked.

Part of why the MegaBonus is such a thing and so important is because money is supposed to be tight so getting that extra $500 allows them to go a bit more ham on the time remaining on the trip.

It also completely takes the juice out of the money round because if you end the trip $93 under budget anyway, who cares if you hit your quota or not?

Underrated portion to me was hearing Brian Chavez explain some of Buzz Bissinger’s process in writing the book.

The research, the vote from the team on if they were going to let this guy in the door, going to the parties to talk to students etc
