I’ve spent enough time in west Texas and lived in the southern part of the panhandle for years. I mean the dollar goes far enough but if that’s the point why have a budget big enough to matter?
Brother if you think that’s the middle of nowhere let me show you some places. But yes I get that. Again all the more reason you didn’t need that budget. It was meaningless in that sense
Earth is the middle of nowhere in the grand scheme of the universe
Sounds like they should base the budget on the current CPI for the area, measured against the gold standard and adjusting on a daily basis for inflation of course. Would totally add to the enjoyment of the program.
Earth Texas? Been there too!
Can’t forget about tariffs.
It’s also called strapped so maybe I was expecting more of the old stuff but the boys have grown older and it isn’t/shouldn’t be the same.
agreed this is wild but I think the pipeline for track at south plains college in Levelland rivals … unfortunately no bios on their website but the one year I went to regional track there none of the volunteers (read teach athletes working the events and gates) where American accents
And nearly $100 of that was at the Buddy Holly museum and the swordfighting class.
I enjoyed the episode, but it felt more like a Tourist Sauce but at muni courses.
Sorry my middle of nowhere meter is definitely a bit off. #coastalelite problems
That’s not a problem, it’s a gift!
I think they’ve kept the budget just to retain the original structure of the series and a tie-in to the MegaBonus, but the days of the budget being a true central focus of Strapped ended in South Carolina. They weren’t going to top that storyline, and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep the boys slumming it (like truly slumming it, I mean) as they reach middle age. Besides, they still lived pretty frugally here. I think it was three straight days of Tex Mex?
It’s been said a thousand times, but it is unbelievable how much better Strapped is as content than anything else in the YouTube golf universe, to the point where it transcends its category. Nothing else has compared for seven years now (except Tourist Sauce, of course).
Only thing this season was missing is the Icarito music on 17 of the money round. Bring it back!
He wasn’t under par! Can’t fall from the sky if you’re still on the ground
They got some absolute steals on the airbnb prices which for sure played into them having extra money at the end of the trip.
Machinehead, hey?
The music dropping completely out was masterful. I was like “I know what you’re doing, and it’s working!” That was riveting.
Randys first tee shot, relatable!
This after the cut from Neil warming up on the range to Randy sitting on the bench was perfect
I think the budget evolved into a bit of a character itself. I might be misremembering, but I thought originally it was just something to be mindful of. Then, as inflation took hold and the COVID golf boom hit, the budget became something to fight against. I get why some folks enjoy that angle, but it doesn’t really fit the ethos of taking a golf trip with a buddy to a lesser-known golf destination.
The original idea felt more like: play some decent golf, have a good time, and don’t break the bank. That eventually morphed into two guys being forced to monitor every single penny spent. At times, it felt more like an HGTV budget renovation show than a golf travel series.
Don’t get me wrong, that led to the “Breaking Bad” moment, which is probably a top-three all-time NLU scene, but I think we were due for a reset. Now they’re back to being mindful of the budget while still playing good golf in fun places.
To me, it’s always felt more like an Anthony Bourdain-style travel show. A “Hey, here’s what life’s like in this area if you like golf” kind of thing. A place you wouldn’t necessarily think of for golf, but where plenty of people live and enjoy it every day.
I was fine with the longer format too. The 2- or 3-episode arc is okay, but one long, really well-done film totally made my night. And let’s be honest, if this aired somewhere else, it would be a six-episode show with 30-minute segments, 10 to 12 minutes of commercials, and a dramatic cliffhanger edited to look like Neil actually domed Randy with a sword and created some tension among the boys. I can’t even imagine what a network producer would do with Icarito that close to the Mega B.
Really easy to see how they could cut it in a way to frame the sword fighting class after only breaking even in the money round as passive aggressive, if not outright confrontational. I like that they tell us the real story.
Ditto. Was chuckling for a little while and had to rewind to watch again.
Absolutely top drawer
