Strapped - Peoria

Quota is course handicap minus 36, all scores are relative to gross score. With the new handicap calculations taking the differential from course rating to par for the course, players should have their course handicap fluctuate from tee to tee.

A variation of this happened to me on Sunday. Course is packed and backed up. Groups are waiting pretty consistently. While we were waiting to tee off, the group behind us was constantly coming up and standing right by the tee box while we teed off. Gave us absolutely no space. It was like they couldn’t tell we were waiting on the group in front of us who was waiting on the group in front of them.

My brother played it for the first time recently(was shocked he hasn’t played it before to be honest) asked him which way he went on 18 and I quote: “right, I ain’t no bitch”.

YouTube commenter summed it up best: “Scott makes Fred Couples look like a try hard.”

Can’t express how aspirational @phegs32’s vibe is.

Also, nailing the correct pronunciation of pho? Golf clap.

Athlete. Just tip of the cap to it. I’d like to see Icarito play with a PGA Tour Caddie, though, to talk him through decisions.

Absolutely loved this one. Such a tremendous study of the mental side of things. Something I’ve been working on a lot this summer. Watching @phegs32 play was an absolute joy, but I have to imagine that playing a competitive round against a guy that so casually shoots in the low 60s might force me to hang it up for good. Just infuriating how easy some can make it look.

Yes to both of these. Seeing that flow, those socks, that effortless swings and a guy in the deep Midwest appreciating quality East Asian food and NOT pronouncing it like FOE is tremendous.

And as someone who must be at least six to ten years older than @phegs32, I am not at all okay with @MerchCzar talking about him as if he’s about to receive his AARP card.

Yea, I’ve seen ex-college athletes swing it that fast, just never seen them make it look easy like that.

Agreed on the caddy.

But will he listen and believe in the shot all the same?

You’ve got it right. Our Saturday game is a quota game. 20-30 guys a week. Positive usually gets you somewhere in the money. +10 will always win, Most guys don’t make their quota. We do have a -1 for worse than double bogey, which matters. It stops people from taking crazy chances to earn that one point for bogey if they already started a hole poorly.

I was thinking about bringing you down to Fl for a pro-scratch

Message me the details and I’ll try to sell it to “the boss”. Appreciate the invite

My main takeaway from these two episodes is that Peoria just seems so damn livable. Like everything you could ever want in a hometown.

My wife worked in Bloomington/Normal for 1.5 years and I felt the same way about it. Too cold in the winter, though.

For quota they have to be non-linear because otherwise it would be no different than keeping score in relation to par, makes you play more aggressive. Also the only reason why bogey is 1 point is to make it fair for higher handicaps.
My biggest gripe with explaining handicapping with people is that your handicap doesn’t take how far you hit it into consideration, the only way your handicap adequately reflects your ability is if you play the proper tee. This is also why quota is one of my favorite formats because it has people condsider the give and take regarding tee selection the most since the quota is obtained by gross score instead of net.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not entirely true if you don’t have negative values for doubles or worse. If the scoring is 1 for a bogey, 2 for a par, 3 for a birdie, 4 for an eagle, a player making only those scores is the same as in relation to par, but if a double is 0, and a triple is 0, and a quad is 0… it’s not the same anymore.

Guis, has this been posted yet?

Sorry if it has, I defiantly didnt read the entire post I just randomly found it.

I want to believe that under @phegs32 visor there is a second visor.

Congrats @phegs32!! Hope your wife and kid are doing great.

My first son (now a freshman in HS - remote learning) was born the week before the USOpen at Winged Foot in 2006. I will never forget my wife and I watching Phil self-destruct on 18 with our son swaddled in a bassonette between us. Remember being shocked that Phil blew it, but also how tired my wife and I were as well!!
