Lick burned out…
Just the rough, everything else was in great shape. The staff does a great job with the course!
Just don’t miss the fairway and you’ll be fiiiiine
Another fantastic episode. Despite Neil and Randy’s “whining” as pointed out by @djpie, this was a nice relaxing one to watch - thanks to @phegs32 and his chill, upbeat, low-key approach to golf.
Always love seeing the big guy visit a college campus. Really felt his disappointment that it wasn’t a typical summer on campus - completely agree with @Randy that summertime on campus is the absolute best. Also his experience in his fraternity made me laugh - so relatable and fits Randy perfectly.
Glad to see they hit Avanti’s as well. It’s not the best food, but for the price it really is a fantastic deal. Gondolas are nothing fancy but legitimately good (it’s mainly the bread) - especially if you take them home and pop them in the microwave or broiler for a minute. My standard take-out is a Gondola (save half for the next day) and either a pizza bread or hot ham & mozz. I won’t stand for the hate on the take-out pizza bread. It’s better in-house for sure, but if it’s soggy then you live too far away or drive home too slowly. It’s also interesting the subtle differences between Peoria Avanti’s and the B-N Avanti’s.
And finally, for those who are predicting Neil snagging the megabonus next week as a perfect redemption storyline…I love the @MerchCzar, but if he does that at Lick Creek without ever seeing the course? That would be just an incredible feat. That course is tough. I’m thinking we’ll be waiting for another Strapped season…as fun as it would be to see the boys blow the megabonus in Peoria.
If quota = playing to your handicap, they shouldn’t make it too often. 40% * 40% for two of them is only 16% of the time. Unless the points for birdies, eagles, etc. are higher…
Neil was 30 and Randy 29, right? It’s 36 minus a 6 handicap, and pars are worth… two?
I mean, maybe they’re not applying the handicap adjustment for the difference to par and the courses are rated 67.2 but play to par 71 or something, which gives them a few more points of wiggle room… but if I understand how it works, and the points are linear, it should be something they don’t achieve very often.
What have I got wrong above?
It’s easier than shooing your handicap, because a bogey is worth 1, a double is only -2, a birdie is worth 4, and an eagle 8.
Imagine a course 0. He makes 12 pars, three doubles, three eagles. He’s even par, but he beat his quota by 6.
Is the quota still 36 in this case? Wouldn’t you be 6 under the quota with 2 pt pars, 4 pt birds, and -2 pt doubles?
Except quota isn’t the same as shooting your handicap in stableford points system.
You’re not penalized for poor holes like you are in stroke play.
Even easier.
The toasted Deluxe Gondola needs to be talked about. Get one of those and you’ll never go back to the slightly pedestrian OG gondola.
This is a hot take…
Literally.
I knew they didn’t lose points. The real answer is that the points are non-linear. Birdies are worth 4, not 3, so that explains why they’re getting close to or surpassing the quota so often. Bogey-birdie (4+1) is worth more than par-par (2+2).
Thank you. That covers it.
Yeah, I just tossed that in because others were mentioning doube+ was -2 points, just making sure everyone is on the same page.
I wonder if that makes it easier for better players to reach their quoto (even though it’s a higher quota). Better players are more likley to manage a couple of birdies whereas mid to high handicappers are more likely to chip away with pars and bogeys.
Depends on the kind of player. It makes it easier, I would say, for “high event players” to get the quota.
You can shoot 77 a lot of ways: five bogeys and 13 pars, or ten bogeys, five birdies, and three pars. The latter is going to earn more points.
Lower handicappers make fewer birdies than many realize… they just make a lot more pars (and not many doubles or worse). Like @phegs32 said, bogeys aren’t too “bad.”
Makes sense - I knowfor me, my best rounds are ones where I’m making mostly bogeys with a few pars. Not going to add up too much for quota rounds, even for my lower quota requirement.
