Finally got ahold of the Director of Golf at Jeffersonville, so we’ll be ironing that out on a call this week. Things have been chaotic on the work end for me, we’ve had my peer go out with COVID and it’s throwing about 10 straight 12-14 hour days my way.
@MikeRevak we dropping this from two days to just one? Think I remember early discussions it being a full weekend, but recent posts seem to just be Saturday? Just wanted to know for family planning purposes. Thanks!
Don’t want to speak for @MikeRevak but I believe it was more of a decision between Saturday and Sunday and never both, but I could be wrong. That said currently the event is scheduled for Saturday the 16th. Looking at the title of this post it is quite confusing.
Yeah, the two dates was mostly to keep that weekend available for people. It will be July 16th for sure and we’ve got times locked up already starting at noon. (I’ll adjust the title heading too) At this point, it’s going to be more feasible for us to operate with tee times like we did last year instead of planning for a shotgun start as was the hope. Additionally, it’ll be more effective for them to handle us on a food and beverage standpoint with their limited set-up as of right now.
That said, for next year, we’ll plan on doing this event either on a Friday or a Monday where it’ll be significantly more cost effective to rent out the whole golf course and plan for multiple 18-hole rounds and catered food.
Lastly, just wanted to mention that I’m working on quotes for tee gifts through Imperial for hats and Winston Collection for towels right now, so once I can get a concrete confirmation from one or the other that they can produce our order in time, I’ll announce the cost breakdown and start collecting money from people for official entry into the event.
Thanks for putting this all together.
For sure. I owe you a hug.
Is anyone playing in this local(ish) to either North Wales or Roxborough? I know those are 2 very different places, but my hotel is in NW and the family I’m visiting is in Roxborough. I mayyy be looking to carpool so as to not leave my wife without a car. I’ll also be open to being dropped off by Dallesandros. Short walk to the fam’s from there, so may as well score the best cheesesteak in town.
I could definitely swing by roxborough if you’re there on my way from downtown to pick you up
Have to back out from the Steeplechase II - have family coming to the beach on the 16th and need to be here. I’ve taken my name off the spreadsheet - bummer. Was really looking forward to it after last year.
I liked this only because I don’t like it, but understand it Jeff.
Thanks Sam - hope you can “repeat”!
Thanks! I’ll DM closer to the date.
Broke down and changed to a hotel in Conshy. Few more bucks, but will be money well spent. Strong to quite strong possibility I’ll be open to meeting up for some cold beers Friday night. Super stoked for this event and weekend!
Played the course this morning. AMA
I’ll kick it off… How’d you manage to grab a Saturday morning tee time?
Will be out of town that day but look forward to playing in it next year. Hope you all have fun. Are there any other NIT qualifiers in the general area?
It’s quite walkable right? Do they have push carts to rent? Won’t be traveling with mine.
Yes to both. Tees are right next to greens for the most part. I walk every time I play.
Hate to do this but have to back out from the event. Not sure if im on a list anywhere, but I can be removed. Between closong on a house recently and the way airfare is looking, i just dont have this in the budget.
Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen,
Just wanted to drop in and provide an info dump of sorts to clarify where we’re at right now with regards to the Steeplechase.
As I’ve mentioned previously above, we’ve shifted away from the previously conceptualized “Course for the Day” format back to the tee time format that we utilized last year. Because of that, we broke it down based on when we could start sending groups out to play at 10 minute intervals and limiting it in such a way to ensure that groups can finish their round in daylight and still have time afterwards for a hangout. Seeing as how we’re able to start sending groups out at noon, with 72 players in the field, we’d have our last tee time go off at 2:50pm and tentatively finish at 7:00pm.
The sign-up spreadsheet was a great tool to gauge initial interest but I know we’re going to have some attrition on the actual number of paid entries so utilizing the tee time format allows us to still have this event without getting burned with the $12,000 bill for renting the course for the day. In that mind, our cost breakdown for the event is as follows: $125/player pays for golf ($60), a $12 Food & Beverage voucher ($15 cost, with $3 going to staff tip), $20 for tee gifts and $30 as a donation to Philabundance on behalf of the Electric Phactory Roost. In order to keep this fair, the first 72 players to submit payment to me via Venmo are in for the event. I’ll post my Venmo information in this thread later this afternoon at 3pm and maintain a separate spreadsheet to track official paid entries which I’ll share on a view-only basis. When submitting your payment to me, please include your full name, Refuge username and Steeplechase in order to keep things as organized as possible. I’ll confirm paid entries on the separate spreadsheet so we don’t clutter this thread with dozens of “Am I in?” posts.
As for some fun and positive news, I’m thrilled to announce that we’ll be utilizing this event to qualify 4 individuals to the Nest Invitational Tournament on November 4th in Jacksonville, FL, and another 4 individuals to the Roost Regional Tournament the weekend of July 23-24 in Atlantic City, NJ. The Roost Regional Tournament will be between the Electric Phactory, the RACDG NYC Metro, The Capital Golf Club and The Boston Tee Party, with the winning team battling it out in Kansas City at the Roost National Tournament in September. As a side note, if you have any interest in learning more about the Roost and our season-long series, feel free to shoot me a message and I can help you learn more.
Now, concerning the charitable donation aspect of this event, the bulk of our donation money will be coming from the $30 portion of your entry fee, but I’d also like to open up the floor to raffle prizes as another way for us to raise money for a great cause. As far as I’m concerned, if you have anything that you’d be willing to offer up, please reach out to me and let me know what you’ve got in mind. I was thinking we could do $5 per raffle ticket and I would love to get anywhere from 10-15 different prizes up for grabs.
I apologize for this being a lot to take in all at once. Unfortunately, this past month at work has been an absolute menace with the BMW Championship coming up and I got behind on a few things, but I fully intend to do whatever’s needed to make sure we have an excellent event this year and all of you can help make that a reality!
Thanks everyone for your patience and support!
