Stanford Women's Golf AWITL: Now talking about Rachel Heck's Decision

Ironic for @oski to be starting this thread, but man what an amazing show. Great job @djpie @Soly @sundaybag @Randy (and @Tron and @MerchCzar though didn’t see you guys in the show)! Such a fun look at a college golf team that happens to be probably the most talented ever.

The players are obviously all unreal, and Rose and Rachel Heck obviously are stars, but Anne Walker is amazing. The Bears lost a good one to the Farm. She was probably my favorite person in the whole thing to be honest (like picking a favorite course at Bandon). But it was all so good. I can’t say enough, and at the same time, if I kept going I’d say too much.

Same takeaway. The kind of coach you’d do anything for.

Will have many more takeaways, but just wanted to drop in that The Nest pod is a deep dive into this video, how it came to be, stories from off-camera, etc. Drops tomorrow!

Thanks for watching!

Absolutely insane video. Good shit.

I am so curious to see how Rachel and Rose perform on the next big stage. Rachel seems born to compete in front of the camera.

Incredible content - Rose is a machine. And what a great coach to play for. So much joy!

Rachel Heck is a predator! 63 with a double is sick!

How did Anne Walker grow up in Scotland, go to college at Cal, and end up with a Canadian accent?

Such great content…Tremendous job capturing the true personality of these collegiate athletes and showing the full scope of collegiate athletics…really made me miss my college baseball road trips…College athletics is about so much more than the actual competition but rather the relationships made and memories around the field of play. When I see my college teammates we talk about funny road trip jokes, events, old coaches, rarely do we discuss our personal success as a collegiate athlete.

Ann Walker has tremendous presence and is exactly who I would want to play for, she reminds me very much of my college coach, showing great feel that you are a 18-22 year old and this is suppose to be fun not a burden. She also shows a great feel for her players and how to take that role of “College Parent” or “Fun Aunt” that is an ally and friend but also an elder at the same time. So impressed by her.

This video really has me contemplating utilizing my covid year of eligibility for one more last ride…but I think my shoulder would have something to say about that.

Standing Ovation @djpie @Ben @Randy

I was seriously confused by her accent.

It’s also very cool Stanford allowed y’all to have this access. Like very unique. Not a chance in hell my alma mater, Oregon (PAC 12 womens golf conference champions nbd), would do this.

Well they did get their RV stuck there once so I’m sure that greased the skids, so to speak.

The non-private university student in me says Stanford could afford the skids, no biggie. If anything, it earned NLU a well deserved ribbing when they went back which I’m sure the staff was happy to deliver.

What a beautiful display of elite ladies’ collegiate golf from the team. My wife even mentioned NLU getting this kind of access was huge so the pod should be spicy (thanks Anne).

Tough scene with Randy and Neil breaking bad being almost immediately dethroned as my favorite NLU content by this video. Absolutely delightful, great work. I dunno the budget breakdown, but this was well worth the $90.

Now I’m going to have to re-watch to see if she says “bag” at any point.

Also coach’s posture is aspirational.

Several years ago I spent a couple days in Palo Alto on a work trip. We had some time to kill between meetings and leaving for the airport. A co-worker who was a high level college athlete himself had kids who were beginning to look at schools, and most of them are incredibly talented athletes as well. He was lobbying so hard for at least one of them to try to go to Stanford. He took us on the most amazing impromptu walking tour of the campus. This took me right back to that day. It’s a pretty special place.
