Coming down to St Pete Beach for a week next week, looking to play as much as possible. What courses in the area should I check out? Scratch golfer but just looking to thaw out my game after a long Chicago winter. Open if anyone wants to play a round together as well. Thanks!
Youāll have to drive to find anything worth your while. They finished the restore on the Ross at Dunedin a few months ago, havenāt gotten up there yet myself but Iāve heard good things.
Mangrove Bay is the muni in St Pete, it is fine but can be tough to find a tee time because it is the only public game in town and everybody has it botted out.
A buddy of mine played it a few weeks ago and said it was really good. I need to make it over there.
I might check out the Ross. I do have a car and am definitely willing to drive.
Can confirm Dunedin is good. Played a week or so ago and was really happy with what theyāve done to the place. Hopefully they can commit to keeping it well maintained. Very solid back porch overlooking a couple greens on the back 9 for having a drink and watching some golf if youāre into that sort of thing after a round.
Let me know where/when you end up playing and I may just join ya. Need to get some rounds in before starting to play qualifiers in April

Heading down to 30A with the in-laws the first week of May. I should be able to get a few rounds in with the extra babysitters. I already am planning on playing Kelly Plantation and Windswept Dunes. Any recommendations on a 3rd option?
Hello my most beloved juicers. Gonna be in Panama City Beach for the week. Did some snooping, sounds like the only good options are Bay Pointe and Legacy. Signal looks to be a tourist trap. Have car, will travel for better if anyone has better ideas and always willing to meet up for a round.
If you are willing to drive out towards Navarre, the Club at Hidden Creek is pretty nice. Opposite direction, St. James Bay in Carrabelle is a course that can test you a bit. Bay Point is a fun course, but donāt know how I feel about the 5th hole there.
SJB looks amazing, definitely will keep in mind if Iām closer to the area but 2 hours single way is a bit much. Working during the day while Iām here, so most likely doing afternoon rounds.
any recommendations on the private golf down there if I was looking to join? I see Indian River is a Donald Ross. Anything else exciting (or definitely not) down there?
I have not had the pleasure of playing any of the private golf in Indian River County, but I explored options during the VID. My top choice was Moorings Club because of its 36 holes (a Dye along the river and a Faz on the sand dunes), but the initiation and wait-list are prohibitive for me.
Someone who is in the immediate area, like @PGA_ALLTHEWAY or @Commish can probably tell you about Riomar, Bent Pine, and other options.
Pretty sure itās a Ron Garl with Ross inspiration.
My favorite track is definitely Indian River, and I know they are one of two places that have discounted memberships based on your age (Pointe West is the other one and itās just ok). Honestly if I were you Iād reach out to the membership area at all the local spots they are all pretty transparent with their fees, initiations, and potential waitlists and they all have their own little markets in terms of membership.
Agreed with what Andy said. Bent Pine had a discounted membership that I was able to take advantage of but it doesnāt exist anymore. If you have a million bucks join Riomar.
looking for some advice. Any thoughts on Atlantic Beach CC vs San Jose CC for a round in the southern Jax area?
All things being equal, Iād play San Jose over ABCC but I heard San Jose is in rough shape right now.
ABCC is a good track.
Im open to other suggestions. I can get on both of those and then obviously public.
dont want to pay Sawgrass fees if I can help it
Both are worth playing. Top tier courses in the area.
Pretty positive the greens are dead at San Jose and rolling at a 3. Iād take ABCC currently, and their logo is much better
