Splash of OJ (Florida Roost)

Hell yeah!

I gained a reputation in the Duck Club’s early days of being a bit of a road warrior, a rep Young Brendan has picked up since I moved west.

I’d be driving down from Tampa so 11-1ish would be ideal, but outside of early morning I can make most anything work. Would be great to get out with you! Thanks Adam

@ASplashOfOJ Woodside Mapes is a company I discovered at the PGA Show, had them do some mockups of polos. Their pricing is pretty solid and the quality of the shirts is nice as well. Wanted to share them here to gauge interest.

  1. Those shirts are sick.

  2. Long shot, but I’ll be in the Ft Myers/Cape Coral area 2/27-3/6 if anyone wants to get a morning game in? First time bringing my clubs, so I’ve really only found Ft Myers Country Club to play but I’m not against driving the rental a bit to play.

Was interested in rubber patch hats so I reached out to Branded Bills and this is what they came up with @ASplashOfOJ

I’d be down for a non rope version. They have a flexfit 110 (I’ll double check) model that’s awesome. I also have a guy who can do a similar style

Wanted to say thank you again to @dshaddy and @Big_RanDeer for hosting me and my friend on Saturday! Great course, great hospitality, and one of the top 5 weirdest things I’ve ever seen on a golf course happened, so we got the full experience!

So to preface, we were keeping a solid pace of play the whole day, but the group ahead of us rally started slowing down around hole 12 or so, and by the time this incident happened, they were about 1.5-2 holes behind the group ahead of them…

We’re on 15, a long par 5. Two of our guys don’t hit the best of drives, so once the group ahead of us get into the green, clearly out of range, they go ahead and hit layup shots to around 40-80 yards away, clearly laying up. Me and Drew are waiting for them to clear the green as sane people do.

So once we think the guys ahead of us are done, we see one of them start sprinting back down the fairway towards a bunker (where we know Anthony’s ball is at) but we just think that he might have forgot a club or something. Then he takes a swing at a golf ball and hits it toward the green and we all get very confused. Then he goes towards our other ball, still WAY short of the green, and hits that towards the green too, and now we’re livid. They start screaming at us that we hit into them and giving us middle fingers and shit. Of course we yell back but this is fucking weird. They pick up the two balls after hitting them, hop in their carts and start driving away. As they’re crossing the green, they throw back the golf balls and go to the next tee. After we hit our remaining shots, we drive up and they start yelling at us again for hitting into them, but they still didn’t understand that when you have to run 80 yards back to hit a ball and “prove a point”, you really have no leg to stand on. Some more pleasantries at a distance were exchanged, but yelling at idiots doesn’t do much, so we put it to rest as best we could.

I’ve been playing golf for 30 years now and I’ve never seen anything like it. Someone woke up that day and chose to be an asshole for no reason :joy:

What a wild story. Welcome to Florida golf, I guess.

I mean, no need to call out our dear leader @Big_RanDeer like that.

Nbd. I hit a shit tee shot then hit a recovery shot 80yds short of the green. It was fine.

It happens to the best of us. But what happened after was just unnecessary :joy:

I’ll be honest the plot twist I was expecting was them firing the balls back at you not up onto the green. Solid expectation subversion lol.

Right? If he went all that way back, I was expecting to get fired at. Luckily for us, he had a better chance of hitting a different fairway than getting the ball close to us

Thank god I wasn’t there :joy::joy:

Not even in the roost but would 100% buy one of those.

I wish you had been. The situation could have used some of the calmness that Italians from South Jersey are known for.

Apologies for the drive by posting. My wife wants to visit Florida soon. I don’t have a problem with that as long as I can play some golf with the gators lol. It’s probably going to be something quick (3-4 days). We’ve thought about the Destin area she has been there once though. Any decent spots we need to add to the list?

I’m probably only going to get one maybe two rounds in so golf isn’t the most important part but I do like neat courses. Nightlife and that kind of stuff couldn’t be any less important. She likes the beach, I like the course, we like good food and nice places and that’s about it.

Our list so far

Destin area
St Augustine
Sarasota/ St. Petersburg area’s.

As far as St. Augustine goes we held an event at St. John’s Golf Club and I found it quite enjoyable.

Whatever you do, do not play Royal St. Augustine - easily the worst course I’ve ever played anywhere (or maybe do play it to see how bad it is)

St. Augustine Shores was passable for the price, I’ll give it a 4.
