Splash of OJ (Florida Roost)

Doral is hosting a pretty big junior tournament that ends next week so courses should be in top tier condition.

Biltmore is a fun course and an easy walk with this awesome miami weather we have going on.

Crandon out in key biscayne if you wanna get spanked.

Miami Beach :headstone:
Biltmore seems to not really have tee times open to the public. So are there just no golf sickos in Miami, everything tucked away in the keys?

Good AND public is a tough ask in the area. Miami Beach GC and Crandon are your closest options. Emerald Hills, Plantation Preserve, and Jacaranda would be Southern Broward options. Then you’re looking up at West Palm for The Park.

Was in the area over Thanksgiving:

Crandon - hugely overpriced at c. $200. Played it a few years ago and really enjoyed it so was keen to get back. Massively let down by the conditioning. Very rough around the edges.

The Park - a good day out, taking in the par 3 course a couple of times, as well as a putting comp on the ridiculously-sloped green and some food at The Cabana. As for the course itself, I’d probably overhyped it in my head. It was absolutely fine, but very little strategy off the tee. Just wale on driver into the massive fairways and try to hit the right part of the green. You definitely don’t need a caddy.

Boca Rio - got on with a nice old boy member via Thousand Greens. No houses or spas in sight here - a golf club where the focus is golf rather than country club lifestyle. Really enjoyed it. The guys who hosted us said he’s hosted the second most people on the entire TG network, so you’d have a decent chance of getting on with him I reckon.

Gleneagles CC - won an auction here in the UK and picked up a fourball for a pittance. Unlike Boca Rio, this was typical Florida country club golf. Absolutely immaculate, winding its way through a residential development but with some surprisingly fun holes. Not my kind of vibe with the ornate clubhouse fountains, members’ card room and general overt opulence, but glad we played it, especially for $20 a man.

We also played Boca Dunes as a warm up (par 62 dog track, but did the job) and Palm Beach Par 3 GC, which was a lot of fun in a great setting.

Roast my agenda:

12/31 Miami Beach cc
1/1 Crandon
1/2 emerald hills
1/3 Normandy shores

Adjacent inquiry to the stuff above—Boca/FtLaut area.

Jacaranda was already saved, saw some love in here. Still a good spot?

Also looking at Osprey Point, which looked interesting from a layout and landscape perspective…

Don’t need the ocean, don’t need water features, don’t particularly need snakes.

I just finished playing Crandon and it is in fact akin to getting punched in the face 18 times.

Loved it

Nice to see a fellow Miamian. Unfortunately the roost is practically central Florida

That cannot be further from the truth.

The miles myself and others from the roost have logged could argue otherwise.

I am literally paying $450 to stay in a hotel in the Palm beach area for two nights. Many others have gotten hotels too. Sorry I know it’s probably a throw away comment but I’m miffed given the time and effort myself and others have put into our roost.
