Sisterhood of the Traveling Refugee Sunday Bag

Looks like there is a bit of Cricket around you in DC. I used to play when I lived in San Diego, standard was pretty mixed but the SE Asian diaspora means there are some absolute cricket sickos there.

My time with the bag has come to an end, with 9 holes of randomly perfect weather in January in our nation’s capital. Got paired up with 3 great dudes I had never met before, including @JMAGS, but unfortunately had to call it quits after nine because my genius dog has once again figured out a way to bust out of the apartment. Langston GC, as always, was a perfectly suitable course for a morning of persimmons and old blades, and the TSB looked perfectly at home. Gonna write my journal entries and send it back to @alexshreff for some repairs later tonight.

Also, two things: (1) @McSchvantz can me and @JMAGS get that badge for meeting other Refugees in the wild, and (2) can someone photoshop out that dumb “Closed Mondays & Tuesdays” sign from the second pic because it really ruins the vibe haha

It was an awesome surprise to get paired up with @RobertHunter while he was carrying TSB at Langston this morning. Really happy I got to play a minuscule part in its storied travels. Also would like to note the sick persimmon and old blades he was carrying. The 1 iron was the quintessential butter knife.

This community is awesome. I am starting to meet more and more Refugees out in the wild and each experience has been great. Always looking forward to the next round.

I know I am late to the game with this, but…

This is one of the best ideas I have ever see/read about. Such a great thoughtful idea to enhance the experience especially when there is going to be a special round played. Thank you to all who have shared in the experience and shared with the rest of us.

Hi everyone, so I just added a proposed swing for the bag through NYC, where I’d love to take it for a loop or two at Bethpage and then pass it off to someone else at the Flushing Meadow event on June 17th. Would be great to have the bag at the NIT event and also have it spend some time at that People’s Country Club.

Hope this idea gets some consideration as I love this idea and would be honored to participate in it.

Thank you

Looks like Sugarloaf is trying to get in on the traveling bag magic. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8yuSWqJtQl/?igshid=mfpjhahk3zti

I’ll fucking fight them

To be fair, they started it a year ago (original post about it was February 8th, 219), but took a different approach where it would trade hands through friendly challenges. Then a scratch guy got a hold of it and hoarded the bag, and now they are trying to hit the reset button. So a different take on the traveling bag, from a good bunch of people.

I saw this and said something in the comments. I wonder if they came upon this idea honestly or if it’s a total ripoff. Hard for me to think it’s not.

I’ll be honest, I knew about the SSC bag before the Refuge traveling bag.

How is it a rip off when they posted about it a year ago? And also, can two people not have similar but different takes on it?

The SSC bag was a partial inspiration for the Sunday Bag and credit has been given to them when/where it’s due, as it definitely was around long before we ever got the pipe dream here - I’ve said it before in this thread when people suggested we pass it off via matches that’s just not the vibe I thought we should go for.

I always thought it was a cool concept, but aside from the part where it gets passed around that’s really where the similarities stop.

Also ours has much more of a strapped vibe than their mackenzie.

Consider myself schooled, I had no idea. I should have done some digging. Foot meet mouth.

Just an update here for everyone

I have the bag in my possession right now. Doing some updates (getting rid of the dumb mesh), fixing the club divider, making the attachment point for the carry strap much stronger, and overall getting it ready to be used and abused in 2020.

Then it’s off for a quick photoshoot in Southern Cali (more to come on that in the following months), and then it will be off and running in March on schedule. Will post some pictures here when surgery is completed!
