Just got done with a round at Bishops Bay. Thanks for the recommendation @KC_Badger. Wife and I thoroughly enjoyed that course. Great conditions, and scenery. We will definitely be back. Now on to The Bog and then Erin Hills.
any holes stick out for you other than 12?
is this available to common folk?
I donāt believe so. It is private and I was able to get on through my Club Corp Play Away membership. Not sure if they offer anything up to the public.
No worries. I didnāt think it was, but was unsure if I wasnāt seeing it somewhere.
Is this a safe spot to bring this up? Does everything but the Links course kinda stink at Lawsonia?
Pro shop - Meh, inventory was low, nothing to buy.
Langfordās Pub - COVID factory. Packed with little masks.
Woodlands Course - Average and uninteresting
Practice areas - Terrible
Carts - No GPS, had two that died and the rangefinder was not great. Some had no windshield.
Was I just in a shitty mood?
You may have been in a shitty mood, but nothing you said is inaccurate.
I believe their app has GPS built into it. So Iām guessing thatās the excuse for not having GPS in the carts.
Yeah, the phone GPS trend needs to die a fiery death.
The course is going to be known for the greens. The slopes are dialed up to 12 in numerous places, and 11 just about everywhere else.
As far as the holes, I donāt think there are any other ābadā holes beyond 12 (and thatās just my opinion, and itās just the drive). There are numerous short par 4s (350ish or below, five by my count), but none that I would truly consider drivable. Some take Driver out of your hands (at least the first time around when you donāt really know where youāre going with cross bunkering), others are just D/3W wedge without tricks to them.
Iād be interested in what others that have played thought of 6. Longish par 4 that follows the creek. I played the hole fairly well and took par, but Iām pretty sure both of the couple I played with lost two balls to the shit/creek.
I think the 16th will be a fun hole to go back and play again. Being faced with a wall of bunkers that you need to fly if you want to get home in two. Having to pick a point and swing away, then, maybe depending on how far you can hit it, wait anxiously to see if you made it.
I asked because (and please, please donāt consider this a brag) I accidentally was part of one of the first groups to play all 18 this spring. I agree with you on the greens, in particular 2, 4, ā¦8?, 15, 16, and 18.
As far a 6 goes, I think Iām mixing it up with 5 in remembering that the tees were elevated the further back you played. I remember not really knowing where I was supposed to go off the tee, but once we got up there and got a clearer picture I donāt remember being too butthurt about it. This was a common theme throughout the round though. Itāll take another time or two to get used to everything for sure.
And yeah, 16 is really cool. I think 4 is my favorite (probably because I almost aced it), but I could easily see 16 being the most memorable hole for players.
As far as crazy/fun greens that I remember, 2, 3 to an extent, 4, 8, 11, 13, 14 to an extent, 15, 16, 17, and 18. 18 is just nuts. I blew my drive almost back into 16 fairway. I couldnāt see the pin at all from where I wasā¦ Tugged a six iron short left and had to chip an 8-iron 25ā right of the pin. It fed down the slop to about 6ā. Fun shots.
5 is the reachable par 5 that doglegs left at some bunkers. (I hit too good of a drive that ran into the bunker on the far side of the fairway.) 6 is a medium length par 4 where you tee off across the creek, and have to take into account a tree that is essentially the ideal line, that then bends to the right along the creek. Scorecard said 412, but itās one of those thatās almost always going to play longer than that due to playing away from the creek.
4 was definitely a neat hole. I tried to be smart and actually hit enough club to get it there into the windā¦ Somehow hit it through/under the wind and ended up on top of the hillā¦ what, 10ā above the pin?
New user here, have been a big NLU fan for two years or so now, never was involved with this side of it because it confused me lol. May be posting this incorrectly or in the wrong spot so forgive me.
Anyways, I went to Sheboygan last week to play a round with my old boss and we decided on The Bull. I had never played it while I lived there & expected to play the other smaller courses that I played instead but man am I glad I changed it up. What a freaking amazing golf course. I rarely have that much fun on a course but man, itās firmly in my WI top 5 now. The Kohler courses are cool for the fact that you walk away feeling like a gladiator that either slayed the beast or got his own leg cut off, but The Bull was just pure fun. Canāt wait to go back.
Definitely not in the wrong spot!
Itās a good thing they found a buyer for The Bull!

Always good to see new guis in here, welcome!
Please donāt take this the wrong way as it is only intended to help you play some awesome places but if the Bull is in your WI top 5 we need to have a conversation about where you have played and what you havenāt seen bc I love the Bull but top 5 is pretty heady.
Whatās your ranking look like so we can send you to some gems?
Oh boy, put me in a corner lol. Top 5 probably has Mammoth Dunes, Sand Valley, The Bull, Sentryworld, and the Irish course at Straits. Iām a bargain golfer so havenāt been able to play Straits, Blackwolf Run - River, or Erin Hills. Playing Lawsonia Links on Thursday for the first time & itās on my radar to get south to University Ridge next year, heard good things. Open to any and all suggestions!
Chime in with my two cents.
-
Nice starter hole, deceiving off the tee.
-
Fun hole, shooting through the trees and then critical to be near the pin on the second shot.
-
Kinda boring until the green, wild slope on the near right side where the pin was.
-
Fun as hell par 3.
-
Walk to 5 is way longer than it needs to be. Water cooler was by the forward tees? Otherwise nice bunkering with a hard false front.
-
No one got in trouble here, but the hole is a bit of a mess. Creek played more a factor on the second shot than we thought, huge green.
-
Nothing too memorable.
-
Super fun par 3 with the tier green.
-
Up and down hole with huge false front, I hit left at the tree and my ball shouldāve been up. Couldnāt find the thing.
-
Nice driving hole, speed slot on the left side to catch the slope and run toward the green a bit.
-
Big forced carry, wasnāt a fan.
-
Long hole with tough spots to hit. Challenging.
-
Hole was a mess when we were there, still seemed to have a water issue. Even without Iām not going to like it.
-
Downhill carry, bit of a walk around the wet parts, was a bit wet all around these two holes.
-
Friend almost got hit by a group on 10, within 3 feet on contact. Almost dunked my approach, rolled off the green after the miss.
-
Wild green, fairly certain I four putted.
-
Elevated par 3, wild green again.
-
Fun ending hole, liked the green merging with the putting course. Still crazy green to watch people come in on.
Saw that - is that based on handicap and/or tiered? Only asking because Iām a cough 19 so Iām a little hesitant about that kind of thing.
12 doesnāt fit the course, plain and simple. The ponds were added for drainage issues and they really serve no other purpose in my opinion.
brother??
Handicapped.
Donāt worry, we arenāt taking it that seriously. Weāre in it to have fun.
Lmk when you come down to URidge. I live less than two miles away.
