Roll Call: Western New York, 2025 Roost sign up

BTC has potential to be a great course but it is run by morons and rounds constantly take 5 hours. I’ll only play it if we have the first tee time of the day.

Arrowheads conditions have also really gone down hill this year

We call Arrowhead ‘God’s Hands GC’ since the owners said in a news article that conditions were dependent on said hands. Play it in the spring, do not play it at the end of a drought.

Harvest is nice, they are out of their minds for their pricing. They used to have a $20 twilight rate, that is gone. Want to grab the 8:30pm time? That will be $54. They’re already closed and open the latest as well. I do enjoy it though, but will pay the couple bucks more for Hickory despite being 20 min farther away.

Have to agree. Partial to Harvest as pace of play is usual decent, and conditions are favorable. Hickory probably the better deal if you can make the trip. Glen Oak has been swapped this year, expect at least 4.5 hours at all times of the day. And Ivy told me I couldn’t walk as a single ever because it “messes up their 4-somes” so I will never give them my money.

Obviously COVID has ruined this but for you Buffalo folks how often do you hop over the border to play? With a Nexus pass I feel like it’s a no brainer. From Rochester I used to go up once a summer to play a couple courses and stay overnight at one of the casinos.

Between Grand Niagara, Legends, Whirlpool…there is some fantastic golf not far from you.

Ivy does have that weird policy but every service-based experience I’ve had with them has been great. Buffalo area public golf in general is very riding-centric for whatever reason. I play there quite a bit and probably as a result have received a booking favor or two, but understand your view.

A LOT. I’ve missed it tremendously this year. Got into a rut kind of playing the same six or so places all the time. Working downtown, I can get to Legends faster after work than I can get to Ivy or Glen. Grand Niagara is my favorite course within an hour of me by far.

That’s good to know. Played a twilight round with a buddy and did enjoy it, just thought it was odd in this time. I would think any money would be good money.

Demand has been really high since golf was ‘re-allowed’ so I think a lot of places are a little tougher his year, attitude-wise. They’re probably also tired of our nonsense! Until this year, I’ve never had to plan a week in advance so often, especially without Fort Erie or Niagara as an option. I’m often looking for 1 or two to join, will get into the habit of posting here when I have a spot.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Excited to check some of these out when I get back to the 716

Arrowhead has no cash since it’s tied up in a lawsuit over COVID violations. They had irrigation issues which they weren’t able to repair so the course is in disarray.

Reheating this again. With the 60* weather coming next week I am playing Glen Oak and have two tee times on Friday 10 and 1010 if anyone wants to join.

Which days?

I am going with Diamond as best public, green are usually crap since they get so much play but best set of greens and interesting holes in my opinion. Second I’d say is Hickory Stick but can’t rationalize the price.

Sorry edited now…Friday Nov 6th.

Have heard good things as well. My friend is in the middle of a lesson package there and likes it.

Id love to golf friday, but ill have the kids all day. might try and play Thursday.

Where does everyone go for golf trips?

I’ve done Turningstone, Pinehurst, Legends of Niagara, Bend. I wasn’t that impressed with the Turningstone courses for the $$$.

Similar list to yours. My brother and I went to Pinehurst last summer for his 40th and I can’t wait to go back. We’ve gone to Turning Stone a couple times with the wives which works out well. They spa, we golf and then meet up for dinner/gambling.

When I was younger a group of 7 college buddies and I would go down to play Bethpage every summer. It’s a great trip on a budget if you’re a NY State resident. We would play the Black twice and the Red once and drive back.

It’s getting to be that time of year where I’ll go anywhere within 4 hours each way to go play.

Most common down and back spots are Cleveland and Pittsburgh, lot of options there. An annual trip to Latrobe. And whichever Refuge meetups I can make happen.

Gonna be a nice end of week next week! 60s for 5 days. Will be playing at my home course of shelridge country club. Anyone looking for a nice course at a real good membership rate let me know. We have lots of guys that are from buffalo and even grand island that make the drive all summer long. Maybe can do a little meetup there next year too. Where does everyone belong to or play the most?
