Roll Call: WA (PNW Crew)

Look you definitely don’t want shot by shot from me, @davidc had a mega good driving/approach day at lake spanaway though.

I wandered about LS in a fugue state on the first day - coming off my career low, I could not make contact with the ball. There were shanks. There were mega-queefs. There were toasty pull hooks. And if you know Lake Spanaway, you know that is a recipe for trees-trees-trees all day. Made my first par on the 14th(!), and considered withdrawing several times. We played tipped out as well which killed any potential for confidence.

Day 2 the winds were on at Chambers which meant it was a fight for survival for most people - I didn’t think I had it in me after the previous day, and proved myself right for the first 5 holes with some truly tragic ball striking. The only positive to come out of the weekend was recommitting myself to the process mentally on my 6th hole of the day and playing the rest of the round under the wind with some much improved decision making & ball striking.

I will be back next year with some big lessons learned!

Burn that place to the ground.

I’ll leave the atrocious putting display aside and simply say I turned it a comfy 27th place finish in my flight while T2 for birdies, truly going full Spieth and I’m nervous.

Jokes asides, I love Lake Spanaway but tipped out I think it loses some of its interest. Some of the par 4’s became real target golf, which is fine, but not why I love it from the blues. In the convo for the best muni in WA for the money though. Chambers is always exciting and the putting did not improve haha so fun hitting big drives down wind over some of those waste areas though!

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to hop on here and connect with some fellow NLU and golf junkies in the PNW! I’m a PGA Professional and I teach at The Golf Club at Newcastle and am a fitter for Titleist. I’m also looking to find some new people to play with as my couple of golf buddies are working a lot and not available to play too much. Let me know if anyone wants to get a game together and I’d love to meet some of you guys! Crack on!

Hey good stuff man, welcome! Always happy to meet new golf nuts, especially folks with such unique experience. And if this a ploy to get me to get fit for new wedges its only working a little…

If you couldn’t choose Newcastle, what are some of your favorite tracks in the area?

Hey David,

I’ve been lucky enough to play most of the private clubs in the area, and I have to say my favorites are probably Snoqualmie Ridge, Aldarra, and Tacoma C&GC. All very different golf courses that test different parts of the game. As far as public golf goes, I’d say Chambers Bay and Salish Cliffs are probably my favorite.

Speaking of Salish I’ve never been there before and was thinking of going this week for my birthday. Has anyone been or heard anything of its conditioning lately?

Not sure, I haven’t played it in a few years

Finally diving into the Refuge and wanted to connect and see if there are some other people in the Eastern WA/ North Idaho area to connect with? Glad to see our corner of the country is well represented though!

Hot list right here! Excited to see Tacoma C&GC as I finally might get a chance to play it this month.

Good to have you! We had the sickest Couer d’Alene weekend meetup planned this year but of course COVID smdh. Cool part of the country though, need to golf more out there

This isn’t helpful because I played it a couple years ago, but the conditioning was incredible at that time. I imagine it’s still great.

That said, I despised the course. It looks amazing but I found it unplayable with any wind. Maybe I suck.

I’ve heard similar feedback from it. Decided to just book a round at chambers tomorrow instead. It’s a little more but also wayy closer and I know it’s a good time.

Anyone down to go to Gearhart on Saturday? Plenty of tee times available

Welcome! I’m out near Kennewick/Walla Walla area myself.

To whoever left the NLU tee on #9 at chambers I pulled it out of the ground for you. :joy::joy::joy:

I played two weeks ago and the conditions were fantastic. Not sure if/when they punched, but solid when I played. Great track.

Anyone played home course since they punched? I know it was about two weeks ago. Just curious if it’s healed up enough to get out there and play.

I have not, unfortunately. You have any info on Lake Spanaway punching?

Na I haven’t played there in over a year.

Played HC Saturday, there were minor bumps but barely noticed. All near misses were my own damn fault.
