Played Potomac Shores for the first time last weekend. The fairways are in great shape (typical brown bermuda right now) and the greens were just punched. They are cart path only until the Summer because they are trying to turn it around. I think the course condition will turn around by May / June. Crazy busy right now though since Fairfax and Maryland courses are closed.
there are public courses in Fairfax open, just not the county owned courses
also, if the fairways are in great shape, but just dormant, why is it CPO until the summer? that doesnt really make much sense to me

Yeah meant to say county owned, and no idea about the CPO. I think they are paranoid since like you said, the course has been trash the last couple of years. Definitely some good holes that make you think and have to apply some strategy. They just switched the holes to where you are starting on the old 3rd hole, and finishing on the old 2nd hole though - so that was weird since you go by the clubhouse on the 16th green now. I feel like if this course wasn’t lost and with some minor changes, it could be a premier VA course.

i agree though, it could have definitely been a top tier public course in NOVA had they not let it get away from them…sure with all the houses/condos/etc they are building there, thats what they had in mind for it

Not pictured were the fairways they literally like tilled and tried to get dry.
Maybe they made some progress? I hope so, cuz the last two years out there qualified for only playing there if free

But then again, I think its far better to rate a course bases on times like this, summer and later after into the fall than spring. Everyone should be green and lush right now with good temps and plenty of rain. How well the course is cared for and staff’s TLC shows later in the year.

They were scheduling some ‘overnight invitationals’ this spring to try and attract new members. Not sure if they will still have them, I am scheduled to go on june 11/12 if it’s still on, may need a partner

It’ll run pretty high but they are known to do some random non member tee times
You can get on if you stay there, but if you live within 100 miles of the course you can forget about it now. Back before they were with Dormie Network this had been the case.
I’d love to find a way to swing it again, $185 after tip tho, but was worth it. Cascades is on the list this summer for sure.
