Welcome to the fun! Make sure to keep an eye out for the 3BR. Many here make the annual trip in the end of July to the hallowed grounds of Blacksburg/Roanoke to take in the mountain air (and Beale’s). Those in the know arrive for the pre3BR, but the actual event is a delightful stroll down the New River where Mr Pete Dye lightens your bag with ample non course targets (kayaks, trains, etc…). The hang out is amazing, food glorious, and fund raising for an awesone cause grows larger every year!

Tons of awesome folks here that open so many opportunities it is unreal.

I’m in the mood for a scramble if anyone needs to fill a spot around NOVA over the next couple months.

Hey all, new to the Nest - was up in RVA for a few years, now down in Newport News, and a member at Cedar Point in Suffolk. Anything fun happening in the Tidewater area?

Edit: for context I’m 38, 2 kids and have no interest in fighting.

welcome to the area. I am down in Virginia Beach and play out at Cavalier - give me a shout if you want to connect and get a round in at any point - 36 1 kid and no interest in fighting - nice SGS reference

Hey, I know you!

I would definitely be up for round somewhere in the middle. I still haven’t played Riverfront since moving down this way - how is it?

Riverfront was very nice. I played it for the first time back in May, and I think it’s one of my favorite courses in the area now. Definitely worth the drive out there.

I grew up in Chesapeake. I live in Northern Virginia now - but my Dad lived in Riverfront, so growing up it was the only course I played. I was shocked as an adult to realize Tom Doak was the designer. I have hilarious memories of being a young kid and playing the par 3 on the back 9 where you hit over the marsh and my dad would always hand me a crappy golf ball or a range ball and make me tee off with that ball cause he didn’t want me to hit a good ball in the marsh.

I’ve thought many times about driving down and replaying that course as an adult now - and using a pristine ball on that hole.

We lived on hole 9, I’ve been hit twice crossing the fairway to go to the pool. Love hearing that the course is still in great condition, doing well, and people love playing there.

We used to sneak on the driving range and night and hit balls.

Had to grint it and relive the memories. Was for sure on the back 9. For any parents in this thread, don’t ever replace your kids golf ball with a bad ball before they tee off. Can confirm they will carry that doubt off the tee the rest of their life…

I thought I took a photo of the hole you mentioned, but I believe this taken from the bridge heading to the fourth tee box.

I had much better luck on that par 3 than I did on 13, but at least I didn’t lose a ball on either hole.

this checks out

Thanks! My boss is a golfer and he totally understands the importance of my pilgrimage to Roanoke. This year let’s meet at Beale’s Friday. I think I will have to snag that camo hat if it fits my massive dome!
