Roll Call: Virginia

Loved the campus course but also a big fan of the hill course too. They just refurbished it.

“Not cool guys. Do that again and I will stop telling other Domers to play the River Course.”

I’m pretty late responding to this but figured I’d offer an opinion. I lived in Arlington/Alexandria area from summer of 2014 to this past June, just moved out to Manassas.

I’ve been playing a lot at Bristow Manor this year and definitely recommend it if you can get out there. It was in good shape all year but I haven’t played it since August.

I agree with Aguila, Laurel Hill is nice and Westfields is good too. Both can be pricey during the high point of the season but are good tracks.

I’ve played Pohick Bay a few times (near Laurel Hill - other side of 95) but not since last year. It isn’t the best but can be a good mix-in course when the conditions are good. Last fall it was in great shape.

Renditions is out towards Annapolis, MD - it’s a replica course of some of the more famous holes in golf. Apparently Lake Presidential is out that way too and just finished a restoration but I haven’t played there.

I’m originally from southern MD and grew up playing Breton Bay. It’s a bit of a drive but is home to the Southern Maryland Amateur tournament in late June. I still enjoy playing there when I get back home.

Welcome to the area!

bristow is a sleeper course for sure…had my only ace on #8 in my first HS golf match

P Willy isnt a bad option out that way, especially for the price

I’ve always wanted to play renditions tbh and I need to make that happen

Just realized the Mid-Am next year is at Independence and Kinloch. Most of my family lives in Richmond so I have some extra motivation now!

Those who just moved into Northern VA, take the drive up near Frederick, MD and play Whiskey Creek and Worthington Manor. Like the rest of Northern VA and it was mentioned in this thread before, the prices to play these places are absurd but for the nature of the game, they are good golf courses with some of the better conditions I’ve found in the area. I do like Westfields layout, some wicked greens if they are rolling fast.

Any recs for a place to take my grandpa around Christmas within 90 minutes of Richmond? Want to pay him back for the old Hogans he’s giving me.

Viniterra, Royal New Kent off the top of my head.

I live in Loudoun but make it up to MD to play Whiskey Creek a few times a year. It’s my favorite in the area.

I’m located in the NOVA area. Currently a member of a private club, but looking in to a Club Corp membership. Anyone familiar with the Club Corp clubs around the area? Is it worth it? Pros/Cons?

yalls greens took an absolute beating this year…T’s and P’s

but i am a big fan of this bucket to say the least

Just looking at the website, it looks like there’s only four ClubCorp golf clubs in the area:

Chantilly National
Piedmont Club- Haymarket
River Creek Club
Norbeck Country Club

Additionally, there are two social clubs in the area:
The City Club of DC
The Tower Club- Tyson’s Corner

The only other ClubCorp assets in relative driving distance are Eagle’s Nest Country Club north of Baltimore, and Hartefeld National outside Wilmington.

Down in Richmond and further south in Virginia, there’s a few more.

I’ll let others chime in about whether or not that seems worth it—I’ve only played public courses in the area—but you definitely won’t be getting the same kind of bang for your buck as other cities with massive a ClubCorp presence like Houston, Atlanta,or LA.

Edited to Add: If I remember correctly from my friend’s dad who is a ClubCorp member, your level of access to other clubs is also going to vary based on your primary membership. Not sure how that affects DC, but in Houston it’s pretty stratified.

Club Corp just added a few more courses recently to the Northern Va area…

Dominion Valley
Belmont

I know you can only play twice a month at the other courses.

I Have a few friends at Piedmont and Chantilly National, and they seem to like their club(s). I’ve played both of their clubs, but find Evergreen to be more of a challenge and better course conditions.

that’s a top tier bucket

My favorite hat there!
We had a bad infestation of a bug that affected the poa greens. The crew did a fantastic job throughout the summer to get the course back. The course has been immaculate since August.

Just found that press release, looks like they added Oak Creek over in Maryland, too.

That’s definitely a big plus. 8 clubs in the relatively immediate area seems like a solid amount of golf to be played.

yeah its a good hat for sure…yall need more merch with that logo on it as it is far better than the one that says EVERGREEN on it

i played a benefit scramble there 7/22 and was pretty shocked how poor the greens were, like some of the worst i have ever played bad…glad to hear they got them back

I’m with you. I prefer just the tree logo, than the EVERGREEN.

Yeah man, you would be amazed at the progress that was made. As a member I was disappointed in the summertime, but you know how it goes around this area. I had played some other courses locally (Bull Run, Stonewall) and all had their problems in the summertime. The spring and fall are the peak times for golf in this area, especially for ECC.
