Where are you guys at with Canadian online retailers for golf stuff? I’m looking to move into a slightly more modern ping driver from my g25 this off-season. I know the main guy, and their associate golf avenue. I probably will go with a good independent local but don’t want to give up a ton of cash doing so either. Tell me what i don’t know.
You could try globalgolf.ca, canadianproshoponline and sportyard or the yard or whatever they’re calling themselves.
Thanks I’ll take a look at those.
If you’re in the GTA I use the classifieds section at the torontogolfnuts forum quite often. Just be careful not to venture too deep, as it’s a terrible member experience basically anywhere else. But I find the classifieds quite good and most guys will ship if you are not based in the GTA.
Thanks for the warning. I’m not at the center of the universe unfortunately but canadian shipping is way better than cross border so I have used kijiji and Craigslist to hunt before. I grabbed my mizunos from the GTA without any troubles so am not opposed.
While we’re talking about the Canadian golf retail scene, has SportChek just completely given up on golf? They were never good but were at least useful as some competition for GolfTown.
Can’t say I’ve ever considered them as an alternative for anything. I’m surprised they even have/had golf stuff.
They’ve been getting out for awhile now. Golf will/is currently only available in the big stores. I believe they’ll still carry accessories in the small stores, but clubs and larger items will only be in the halo aka large stores.
I feel feel like they still have a handful of Taylormade stuff but not much
I got a pretty sweet RAM driver there back in the day
My closest store used to have iron sets, individual clubs, bags, a full range of clothing, shoes and accessories (in their “Nevada Bob’s” section). It also had a hitting net and a putting area.
A couple of years ago, the creep began with other product lines (primarily fitness stuff) moving into the golf section. Then they essentially cordoned off what was the golf section, leaving a shelf of balls, a display of accessories, and some random clothing,
You could occasionally find deals there. I bought my RTX 3 wedges from them online and my SLDR 3-wood in-store.
My local Sportchek has some golf stuff, mostly a few years old and for some reason still full price. Like Adams wedges for $130.
They’re ok for clothing and occasionally they’ll brain fart and forget to exclude balls from their F&F sales, but definitely not top of mind for me.
That’s essentially how all of the non halo stores went. I was working part time at one during university (just for the discount) and was the same thing. Hitting net and putting green got moved out and basically just expanded the other hardgoods into that section.
Hit my first ever birdie today!!!
The 18th at Streetsville GC, chip in pin high from off the green after a wee pull.
Absolutely no comment about the rest of the round.
I was in one maybe a year ago and they were “clearing out” their Nike drivers. The drivers were like 3 years old at that point, discontinued, and were still priced at like 400 bucks.
Dude! Congrats!
Our Sportcheck’s golf section was previously owned/run by Nevada Bob’s. Whats their status?
They used to have a store on Yonge St all to themselves. Now defunct?
Back home the last I heard of Nevada bobs must have been 20 years ago at least since they had a store presence. They used to be the place for tennis gear.
Forzani (Sport Chek’s former parent company) bought Nevada Bob’s in Canada sometime in the 00s. Canadian Tire bought Forzani in 2011.
At the time Forzani bought it, there was a thought they would compete with GolfTown. Though it was always a store within existing Sport Chek stores. Presumably Canadian Tire has had other ideas since.
