Cliff’s will be my guess for the top spot. Think they’ll continue to ride it hard for the next couple editions.
The holes in the valley really carry the course and a couple of the par 5s up top are decent. The rest is pretty forgettable
Are there any notable new courses built in the last 2 years or went through significant renovations like Algonquin? Any other golf resorts planned in Canada?
Been following the list as well, a few friends and I have a tracker and the hope to play all 100 at some point in our lives.
My home course is on the list, I may be a bit biased but would say it’s ranked on the low end. Happy to see good public course representation tho!
Can any Edmontonians speak to Royal Mayfair? Went from 92 to 57.
Not sure how ‘notable’ but the Nest at Friday Harbor opened last year and is a hella fun golf course. Could see it ranked around the 70s or 80s at some point.
Oh yeah, didn’t think about that one. Place looked really fun. Was trying to convince the GF we should move up that way last fall
Presumably it’s too soon for Mickelson National.
I mean if you’re scratch the tips are totally fine. If you’re not definitely don’t but you shouldn’t be playing 7100 anywhere if you’re not scratch
You could play Bear Mountain - Valley in Victoria. But it’s relaly not all that good.
The valley holes I guess? Those are the most interesting I’d say.
Cliffs deserves to be a top 3 for a long time. Truly my favourite course I’ve ever played. But it’s very hard to compare it to something like St. George’s or the other top courses
Eagle point was fun.
Looooved Tobiano. Tips were hell. Shot 93 from tips (Had zero chance from some) then 86 from up one. What a course. Prob the best public I’ve played in Canada so far.
I visited Victoria in the fall and played the mountain course at Bear instead… how big of a mistake was that…
It looks…not fun
No idea - that’s a tough place to get any intel on.
Agreed. Not a complaint from me that it gets that honour.
I’m also on the side that a lot of course ranking lists include too many courses that are not attainable for the general public.
Probably showing a little bias as well, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Highland Links sticks in the top 6-7 again for a long time. After an awful 2018, conditions last year and this year have been amazing. Add in that it’s a Thompson course and it’s going to show and play well for awhile.
I counted the 2018 ranking, and 42 were public accessible courses. I know we also get a top 59 public ranking every other year but it would be nice if it was a bit easier to check off boxes for the top 100
Score is better than most at including public courses. I do find it funny that in the Top 10 it’s 5 and 5, but then 10-40 there’s only 9 public courses.
Isn’t that what the top 100 public courses list is for? Don’t know about other parts of Canada but In terms of actual course quality I would put every private course in the Vancouver area miles ahead of all of the public courses other than Northview Ridge which might barely beat out the worst of the private tracks…
That it is.
and as someone who worked at a full private club for 7 years, I mostly agree. Though it comes back to the important points of the course ranking and where the focus is regarding scoring, essentially what makes a “good” course?
Also when you look at what is considered “attainable”, which includes more than just accessibility. Top 59 public courses list only has two courses under $150 per round in the Top 10.
