Roll Call: The Duck Club | Canadians, Beer and Cow Pastures

I can see the buckle now. Looks good either way!

Thanks! I wish I hadn’t taken so long to get around to it, but life with kids and trying to maintain some semblance of a golf game is tough haha

As much as I am interested, an 8am tee time on a course that’s more than a 2-hour drive is a no from me. Sleep is far too valuable right now.

Booked for Highland Links in a couple of weeks. Stay and play for a room and two rounds with cart for $199?

I mean, how can I not?

Have 18 at Eaglepoint in Kamloops and 36 at Tobiano on Thursday.

Anyone play Tobiano before? - A lot of tee selection - thinking of playing 7100 just don’t want to get beat up to bad.

A lot of elevation changes, some forced carries, and potentially a lot of wind - it plays longer than the yardage.

Agreed. I would add there’s more than a few blind shots as well. I’d suggest looking at the par 3 distances to pick your tee box. I think every par 3 but one is all carry with a small bailout area dependent on which side the cart path is on.

Anyone been following the Top 100 courses in Canada countdown through GolfTown?

Yeah, a little bit. Been quite a few courses that dropped a bit. Think the biggest move so far has to be Algonquin moving from unranked in 2018 to the coveted 69 spot this year

Fucking right. My home course - I’m just 4,200 km away.

Yup! A goal of mine is to play a top 100 course in Canada this year!

Yeah, there are definitely some great courses that have really dropped. And other courses that appear to be high. Don’t get me wrong, TPC Toronto’s North Course is a nice track. But is it really the 53rd nicest course in the country?

I will say they got it right having Glen Abbey in the mid 70s. I’m so tired of people getting hard ons for it and I think most are finally starting to realize it’s an ok course at best.

I try to play at least one each year! Usually winds up being Cobble Beach over and over again, but I’m hoping I can start consistently hitting up Cobble + at least one other from here on out.

Where are you hoping to get out to?

Well it’s going to probably have to be a public course likely in BC. Thinking Big Sky or something in Whistler area

I used to work at #67 Deer Ridge when in university, so I’ve played that course plenty. Definitely agree about how overrated the Abbey is.

@Sarah I think they just ranked Nicklaus North and Fairmont Whistler. I’ve played Fairmont on the simulator a few times, I can not imagine those elevation changes in real life.

Yeah. I’m always surprised Lora Bay doesn’t make the list. I haven’t played a lot on the list but Lora is definitely better than Copper Creek. Also might be the last year Magna makes the list

Glen Abby is kind of boring but has a stretch of very good holes.
I’ve played 18 of the top 100 for the 2018 list. Looking forward to the rest of the 2020 edition although the staged release is a little annoying.

Why do you feel Magna is overrated or soon to be dropped?

Didn’t Magna sell the course to a developer recently? :building_construction:

Hadn’t heard that but yorkregion.com is never wrong.
