I kind of like the Skydome and it is pretty iconic but the footprint is huge compared to other stadiums
I’m excited to see it as part of a bigger development instead of a single use…I guess outside of the hotel?
I’ve only been to Toronto once, back in '98. Loved the vibe of the city. By all accounts, it’s even better today. When I was there, we did a tour of Skydome and it was…fine, I guess. I’d love to come back post-Covid and enjoy a game in a cool new stadium that is unique but in a modern-retro kind of way.
I am all for retiring the Skydome. It is one of the last multisport indoor stadiums still in use for a reason, as it was a midding venue for both football and baseball. Hopefully, the new stadium is a great baseball venue and takes better advantage of its lakeside real estate. If the redevelopment of the Skydome site is the catalyst for Toronto to embrace its lake shore I am all for it.
You bring up a good point about multiuse - the Argos aren’t even there anymore. So it’s essentially just the Jays, a few concerts and some monster truck stuff.
Easily replaceable.
I’m an urban planner, and my practice is based in the GTA.
I guarantee you this development and approval process for the new ballpark is going to be a complete “designing a horse by committee gets you a camel” type situation.
Way, way too many cooks in this kitchen for things to turn out well - ballpark wise or city-building wise.
I know it’s federal land, but is it a Canada Lands property?
Sounds like par for the course in the GTA
The focus of the redevelopment is going to be real estate first and it’s still on the wrong side of the Gardiner to revitalize the waterfront. And if they do secure land on the actual waterfront. It’ll be a disaster to get to by transit
I apparently missed a bunch with some NIT drama and an alleged paywall…bummer.
Yea they cleared some land near the existing clubhouse and it sounds like a bar will be open year round. It will be owned by a prominent Cranbrook family and will lease out space to Wildstone to use as a proshop… v interesting development. Not sure I can think of a similar situation where a course leases it’s clubhouse/bar/shares it with the community
I just learned that the chef at Deer Ridge in Kitchener does a similar thing now - leases the kitchen / dining room and runs his business out of there. Restaurant remains open to outside guests, they run events and stuff. Not sure on the particulars, but the member that told me seems happy with the arrangement.
I have seen that set up elsewhere. Unfortunately it did not end well. The goals and expectations of the club differed too much from the chef’s. The restaurant focused more on its outside clientele and played favorites. Serving members was an afterthought. Members stopped patronizing the club’s food and beverage facilities and made a stink at the AGM about their food and beverage minimums.
I don’t have a lot of private club experiences… but the one I was a part of for years always struggled with the F&B part of the golf club business. Wanted steaks at Kraft Dinner prices (for the members who already thought they paid enough and wanted a deal). Hard to retain good talent. Good food wasn’t always fast and that irritated many. Lots of complaints, lots of turnover, unrealistic expectations from all sides.
MIght be worth reaching out to level wear. Canadian comapny that is into the golf game. Just a thought.
Levelwear is generally good to deal with. However, if I’m being honest, their headwear is pretty crap. They were all excited like 5 years ago because they were able to start using Flexfit, but materials are still not great.
Looking good. That’s the goal in the next house
If by appreciate you meant jealous, you’re right. Looks good! Any plans to fit it with a sim eventually?
